I recently moved to a new location with existing internet. Twitch/YouTube working fine with Firefox and Chrome on my laptop. Twitch/YouTube also working fine on my desktop when using FireFox but not Chrome. I tried clearing browsing data, ran CCleaner, reset router/modem, etc. Cant seem to get it working. Any suggestions?

Youtube is an html5 video, the website you're visiting might be an old adobe flash video. Try resetting the permissions for the site to: allow adobe flash. Click the icon to the left of the address bar, usually a green lock (secure https) or an i (i for information, http insecure site), then click site settings, and reset the Flash permission.

Adobe Flash is now blocked by default in Chrome because it is a bug ridden cybersecurity nightmare of a plugin.

no dice on the flash thing. Tried resetting permissions and allowing flash, both didnt work. Tried clearing browsing data and all that with no luck. Also, I tried restoring chrome to default settings. No luck

Have you tried uninstalling Chrome using Revo Uninstaller, deleting all the left overs, restarting computer and installing it again?

P.S. Does Chrome work on other sites?

Turn off Chrome's Hardware acceleration if it is on then relaunch.

Also, try the Incognito mode with all extensions disabled.

Are you syncing settings/syncing everything when uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome? Try it without syncing.

Can you post the site so people can test if it works for them in Chrome?

It's a weird problem.

Try clear your dns cache (command prompt, ipconfig /flushdns).

You reinstalled Chrome, did you do it with Revo Uninstaller? It leaves behind lots of stuff, Revo will make it a clean install. Use Revo, restart your computer, reinstall. Don't log in or install any plug-ins before seeing if it works.

Create a new windows user profile, try from in there. If this works it's something corrupted in your windows profile, could be anything from a conflict with another program to a registry setting. If this doesn't work it could be something hardware related maybe, drivers or router?

Edit - disable fast start-up in Windows power settings if it's enabled, sometimes it's caused weird stuff with updates.

flushed dns, uninstalled chrome with revo and deleted all trace files. Restarted windows and reinstalled chrome without syncing. No dice. Created new user account and tried chrome again, no dice.

Few more guesses - try changing your DNS to use google or openDNS. Do a clean install of your graphics drivers (use DDU if possible). Try using your mobile data (tethered) as an alternative connection to see if it works, rules out some weird ISP thing.

DNS change didn't work. Did clean install of graphics drivers with DDU, no dice. I would love to run a test on mobile data but I dont have a wifi adapter on my desktop :\

I also swapped ports on my router, no luck

what does it actually do/say when it fails to play videos in chrome? post a screenshot?

i don't have any suggestions outside of what others have already suggested, but maybe seeing the error(?) will help.

spinning wheel and a message that says "If playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device." Then after about a minute sometimes it will load the first frame of the video and thats it

I rarely say this, but you should consider a windows clean install. Backup data, disable extensions, and turn off syncing beforehand.

several hits suggest trying to disconnect any audio devices. give that a shot? no idea why that would help, but it's worth trying before clean installing windows.

other thoughts:
- were there any windows updates installed around the time that the issue started?
- were there any driver updates installed around the time that the issue started?
- did chrome update around the time that the issue started?
- system restore (if enabled) could be worth a shot as a last resort before clean installing

Disconnecting audio devices didn't work

No new Windows, drivers or Chrome updates were made during this time. I have a restore image for this system that is about a year old. I'll probably just end up doing that. Not a huge deal. This computer is mainly a media center
