Sam Walton had a few bucks back in his day. Rothschild, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt.. they did ok, too. Carnegie (sp?) and Buffet deserve honorable mentions. Sultan of Brunei had the world's most expensive car collection iirc. Not too shabby imo.
But for a single person it still has to be Rockefeller. JDR was worth over 300 billy clubs. Probably the wealthiest man that never sat in a throne or had "The Conqueror" in his name.
Richness comes and goes though. Like, say, Tiger Woods would be close to the top of this list, but now post-divorce settlement and losing sponsorships, not so much.
