only about 30 minutes into the first episode, but it is awesome. though i guess as a history teacher i do have a couple questions and really hope this thread can take off here, as i mostly lurk this forum but love the discussion.

100% buying the dvd in december and making the last couple days of school in june bearable.

anyone else watching this?

while im certainly glad the history channel is doing actual history instead of ''enter Aliens meme'', im still skeptical but i will be watching. I could criticize but nonetheless its better to have history then pawnshop stars playing on the history channel.

Loved "America: the Story of Us," so was obv stoked when I heard about this.

Overall (I'm two 2-hour episodes in so far I think?), I feel like they gloss over a few things (i.e. the building of the Great Wall), but overall it's pretty damn good. I feel like it would be ridiculously daunting to have to chronicle all of mankind's history in just a few hours, especially compared to the previous series.

Still thoroughly enjoying it.

I personally did NOT enjoy that series very much, but I am enjoying this new one pretty decently. They still have some pretty wtf-commentators (Brian Williams talking about Rome? Really?), but it's well-constructed and integrates a lot of the more recent work in World History without relying on old cliches. I may consider getting an educational set when it's out on DVD.

I viewed 1/2 of the link. But, I think they are putting a liberal slant on history. Maybe it is for the better, but I don't think it is 100% accurate history. for example, they implied that Cortez only beat the Tenochtitlan due to the smallpox that cut 1/2 their forces.

Damn smallpox and its liberal bias!

What is the "conservative" counter-argument? Christianity?

Racial superiority that allowed them to invent steel and boomstick weaponry.
