Leo I -- He was an important figure in defending Rome at a time when the western Empire was facing collapse. Though the story of his dealings with Attila are apocryphal.

In my imagination, I can see the negotiations with Attila being a "good Pope / bad Pope"; the application of persuasion and benediction and then the presentation of a hoard of treasure towards the end.

John Marshall (September 24, 1755 – July 6, 1835) was the fourth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States (1801–1835). His court opinions helped lay the basis for United States constitutional law and many say made the Supreme Court of the United States a coequal branch of government along with the legislative and executive branches. Previously, Marshall had been a leader of the Federalist Party in Virginia and served in the United States House of Representatives from 1799 to 1800. He was Secretary of State under President John Adams from 1800 to 1801.

I would want John F. Kennedy biopic.

There are some interesting books that have come out lately about JFK.

JFK and the Masculine Mystique: tries to show how JFK's sex appeal was akin to that of a movie star and how others in his time--the Sinatra Rat Pack, Norman Miler, Hugh Hefner, Ben Bradlee, Ian Fleming, Kirk Douglas, and Tony Curtis--were of the same ilk. It's a somewhat forced argument, but the tidbits about JFK's sex life are fun to read.

The Kennedy Half Century: good read from Larry Sabato which is particularly strong on the details of the assassination and the Warren Commission.

The Afterlife of John Fitzgerald Kennedy: The best book of the three, by Michael J. Hogan, shows how Kennedy constructed an image of himself, how the media was complicit in sustaining that image, and how after his assassination, his widow continued the charade.

i don't know that much about him but have been to JT House in Bangkok.... don't remember the CIA part but i'm sure it's just my poor memory.

i thought a fairly strong theory was that he was killed accidentally - hit by car? - and they just dumped the body instead of reporting the accident.

Been watching Marco Polo on Netflix. Recommend.

What about Sulla?

He's largely overshadowed by Julius Caesar today, but he:
- Was a phenomenal general, overseeing wars between Numidians, Germanic tribes, kingdoms of Asia Minor, and fellow Romans
- Marches his army into Rome twice to combat populist uprisings
- Becomes a dictator to restore the republic

His audacity is probably the reason a figure like Caesar could even rise up 30 odd years later.

• The first Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company which received the world's largest land grant, named in his honour: Rupert's Land, and

Our movie would include scenes of

• a confused flight from Prague with our hero, as a baby, being tossed into a carriage at the last moment by a retainer, after after having been overlooked by his parents, just deposed as King and Queen of Bohemia
• an ostentatious trilingual upbringing in the Hague, in which our hero displays a quick and voracious mind and a violent temper
• adulthood as a very tall, dashing Cavalier in the service of a Dutch prince, first as the Prince's bodyguard and then commanding a cavalry regiment
• cavalry charges, musketeers and pikemen in battle
• our hero being made a POW, then having a romance with the lovely daughter of his gaoler
• after a negotiated release on parole, an audience with the Holy Roman Emperor, in which our hero turns down an offered military appointment
• smuggling himself into England and evading Roundhead patrols as he comes to the aid of his uncle the King of England at the start of the English Civil Wars,

• banishment from England by the King after surrendering Bristol rather than seeing it destroyed
• military service for King Louis XIV of France against the Spanish, which included obtaining the surrender of a powerful fortress, and then suffering a head wound in a subsequent ambush.
• a return to service to King Charles of England by taking over the rebelling English fleet and dealing with mutineers by personally dangling one of their ringleaders over the side of a ship.

• a naval battle off the Mediterranean coast of Spain,
• a hurricane at sea
• privateering in the Caribbean
• an assassination plot against Oliver Cromwell
• time spent as a mercenary in Germany because the Emperor didn't have enough money to pay reparations Rupert is owed
• a love letter to a woman who didn't love him ending up by mistake in the hands of his sister-in-law, who thought (and hoped) it was intended for her
• a return to England after the Restoration, and being made Duke of Cumberland - financial security at last
• introducing the mezzotint process to England and producing some notable works in the medium
• becoming an accomplished real tennis player
• having an affair with the daughter of an English explorer and adventurer
• speculating in commercial ventures in Africa that developed into the "Company of Royal Adventurers Trading into Africa", and to compete with the French in the North American fur trade that saw him become the first Governor of the "Governor and Company of Adventurers of England trading into Hudson's Bay".
• fleet battles against the Dutch in the Second and Third Anglo-Dutch wars, with Rupert introducing new and successful tactics
• experiments in glassmaking and metallurgy
• development of prototype torpedoes and diving bells, and methods for making better cannon
• an affair late in life with a notorious actress

Throughout we'd have the struggle of an exile with no personal financial means growing up surrounded by wealth, ongoing family feuds, political intrigue at court and a restless mind unable to settle down.

I think it would make a very scenic movie, but there is so much material it probably needs to be a mini-series, and the production costs would be prohibitive.
