Shogun is amazing. I read almost all his books. The one with Dirk Struan is great too. Can't remember the title.

Conn Iggulden's books on Caesar and Genghis are also good

The Quiet American by Graham Greene nailed the American disaster in Vietnam -- in 1954!

Gore Vidal's America series is wonderful.

Re: bolded. Tai Pan is the title.

I really enjoyed his book Whirlwind, set in Iran during the '79 revolution.
