Hey,

I'm looking for a few examples of antique pseudepigraphy not within a biblical context.

Surely there is some kind of compilation somewhere on the net? A quick google only brought up a litany of hits with a biblical context. :/

Thanks!

Just a quick clarification:

Do people not respond because my OP sucks, they don't know what I'm talking about or they simply can't help me? If it's something about my request - I'm sure I can clarify.

Basically, I have a reasonable understanding of the phenomeon in a biblical context. The normal scholarly narrative about it is that it was accepted/tolerated practice in antiquity. I've recently had this view challenged and would like to find examples of non-biblical pseudepigraphy, preferrably some where the "fake" was discovered in antiquity.

I just wanted to respond to say I have no idea what you're talking about and can't help you, but I wanted to make sure you had a response to your thread.

Congratulations!

Have you tried a better google search? I would start with:
antiquity pseudepigraphy -bible -biblical
then refine the search by adding a minus sign to other unwanted hits until you (hopefully) come up with what you're looking for.

I am an occultist, and there are many examples of texts like this in the occult.

The most (in my opinion) famous example would be The Key of Solomon.

There are thirteen epistles supposedly written by Plato, some of which are widely regarded as forgeries.

Onomacritus is a famous forger mentioned in Herodotus.

Bart Ehrman's book Forgery and Counterforgery is somewhere you could look.

Here is an article on Literary Fraud among the Ancient Romans--it talks about a bunch of pseudipigraphical works.

I keep seeing references to a supposed medieval Welsh manuscript called The Book of Pheryllt. I have a suspicion that most, if not all of these references, are inspired by the truly wretched and quite idiotic book The 21 Lessons of Merlyn by Douglas Monroe. Monroe, who has neither Irish nor Welsh, refers to The Book of Pheryllt as a sixteenth century manuscript of arcane Welsh mystical learning. ... If you're truly interested in druids and authentic pagan Celtic practices, go to legitimate scholarly sources based on genuine scholarship.
IoW: No. It's just made-up bs.
