European Revolutions: 1848 European Revolutions: 1848

I recall studying about these revolutions (from 1848 and some years following) that shook Europe. It was a volatile time. Most of the revolutions fell far short of expectations in actually change, I believe though some lasting change did occur.

This is an interesting read, don't know how reliable the site is:

European revolutions_of_1848

Anyone have general knowledge of this time and/or know of good websites or worthwhile books to read?

A general discussion would be good also. I have to admit that although this period of European History fascinated me, it is so long ago that I studied it that most of what I learned has been lost to memory in the mists of time.

There's a segment in one of the free online history courses from Yale titled
'Why no revolution in England in 1848'

That may be of interest.

It's been a few years since I downloaded and worked through the course so my memory of the value of the content has faded somewhat.

Not by speeches and majority opinions will the greatest problems of the times be decided -that was the mistake of 1848 - but by Blood and Iron. - Otto von Bismarck
