I was traveling recently and purchase the premier issue of Exploring History put out by National Geographic. I read through most of the magazine right away and found it enjoyable and informative. Here is a review of the premier issue from a respectable history blog:

From the above link:

“The Fall 2011 issue also includes essays on "Rome's War Machine," "The Rise and Fall of Moctezuma," "Joan of Arc--Beyond Belief," and "Birth of the Pyramids." Editor Anne Alexander writes "Just as National Geographic has been revealing the wonders of the world to readers for more than a century, this magazine will dig deep to unlock the mysteries of time, from the dawn of civilization to the modern era."

Richly illustrated and laid out with clean precision, Exploring History is a must have for history buffs, general enthusiasts, teachers, and professional historians. “

I have previously mentioned in the Civil War thread that the Smithsonian Magazine will have featured articles and standing short informative articles on the Civil War for the next 4 years. Also the Smithsonian, although more of a “cultural” magazine, does have articles on historical topics so is another resource for history buffs, aside from being an excellent and respected magazine on a variety of subjects.

I invite others to post their favorite or otherwise worthwhile and best history magazines to bolster the good information available for the forum, and to inform us all of what is out there that is both exciting to read, relevant, and has a standing of respectability in the historical community.

dunno if they have it in the US but History Today is easily the best magazine I've read. As the name suggests it emphasises how history is relevant to current events rather than retelling stories of the past.

I think it's natural to find a lot of history boring, it's pretty hard to find every single era engaging. Personally, I only find 1 or 2 articles that actually seem worth reading so generally try and browse as many different issues as possible.
