I believe she was trying to extinguish the name as opposed to somehow eliminate some gene that made HG follow his path. But my recollection may be off?
Which brings up the brother. I find it odd that people find it odd that he was a 'good' man. We want to make it so black & white in an attempt to understand it IMO.
Nobody is good or evil IMO, they just make choices. Often based on the circumstances they believe to be in their best interests at that moment. Often based on partial, flawed or facts under duress. For example, for many the Nazi party was just a socio-economic requirement of the time. A slippery slope is it not? Evil most often just doesn't present itself wholesale.
Nobody knows the strength of their moral compass until tested. And even then, one may go the other way next time based on circumstances.
We live in slippery times & I am constantly amazed at how it has impacted a lifetime of historical study.
