A fellow Greek from Greece
As a kid growing up in Canada I went to greek school (separate night school 2 nights a week) until around grade 5.

My Dad especially was a very proud greek, I have been to Greece 3-4 times in my life but not in a number of years. My greek has definitely fallen off to the point where I started the Pimsleur courses on greek so I could freshen up a bit. I'd like to get back to Greece for a visit in the next year or so.

Ah. Nothing major or anything

Thanks for the answers. Btw,

I don't think that arbitrage in finance relates much to sportsbetting - this is mainly due to their being very little opportunities or liquidity for live betting.
..it does (in soccer, at least, both pre-match and live), it is just extremely complicated!

Yes I was referring to US sports my bad. I don't have much insight for Euro sports. A friend was telling me about the live betting markets on soccer and I was floored.

yeah, no money in straight arbing any more but quant arbing is where it's at. I will speak to a friend who does flow mechanics to run some stuff for NBA and maybe you could have a look sometime. Nice well.

no questions, but you're hilarious, especially when making fun of poker players that wear bling bling

First I have heard of it and I never called anyone's boyfriend. Someone asked me my opinion on a person and I gave it. Never offered anything unsolicited.

how much more profitable did you find 2nd half betting (if at all) it would seem to favor those with the best/fastest systems and databases

Its pretty tough to handicap 2h's (or anything for that matter) of games doing straight database work. You have to make giant leaps and assumptions because the samples won't be large enough for them to be statistically significant.

Database handicapping is extremely overrated, somewhere along the lines people mistook what I was doing for database work and I never corrected them. You have to have a lot of data, but the data just helps you build models either through strict regression or through supposition.

I think NCAA basketball is a farce, if i had a kid who was a good prospect I'd have him play a year in Europe.

Doing simulation work (the way I would do it) on NCAA hoops is very very difficult, there isn't enough data, the players don't stick around long enough and the ones that do experience great variation from year to year.

seeing as you are pursuing a career of working at an nba front office, i won't ask you to name the worst.. probably not a good career move.

thx for doing the well, it's appreciated.. loved what do you did with on poker road with scott huff on big poker sundays, iirc there was a story you once told about a time when you were playing poker while driving and you got pulled over.. since i have a terrible memory i might be off here and confusing you with someone else on poker road but if it did happen, could you re-tell that story...

No questions that I can think of now, but thanks for doing this. You were always great to listen to on BPS and that Circuit interview you did was outstanding. Find a reason to get back into podcasts please.

How many books did u have to spread that 70K Lakers bet across?

How much did u sell ur 'sky cap' business for and it still operating today?

I think I had it spread around 5 books, one book took the bulk of the bet.

The skycap business no longer operates, I don't think I actually sold it but instead licensed it out to one of my employees who ran it for 2 years or so before moving on to something else. The business itself wasn't worth much (maybe 25k in profits from the airline contracts) but you could pick and choose the plum days / flights to work for yourself. This could be worth quite a bit provided you had some work ethic.

I have to admit I'd never heard of you before today. I'm somewhat ashamed to admit I'm fascinated by you now.

How likely do you see an NBA lockout for the 2011-2012 season?

If you were Donnie Walsh w/the cap room you have who would you target for free agency?

Also would you try to re-sign David Lee, and what would he be worth?

I'm a huge Spurs fan and a huge Haralabos fan, you're breaking my heart with the Mavs in 7 prediction.

Where do you put Ginobili in top players in the game? For comparison sake, do you think the Hawks would be better with him or Joe Johnson?

What are your feelings on George Hill compared to Parker? I don't like ball pounding/score first PGs like Parker, but I'm not sure that's bad it just isn't stylistically pleasing to me or the right way to play basketball, imo.

As a Spurs fan I'd like to see Parker and RJ (nice thinking) packaged for some kind of help in the 3-4-5 or getting Splitter, if you were GM of the Spurs what would be your offseason goals and plans for the future?

Sorry for all the fanboy questions, agree with PBJaxx about needing you on a podcast again, and I opened an account on 2p2 just for this well, haha.

Bob, I can't believe I forgot to ask this before:

Are you back in Phil Hellmuth's grid?
04-18-2010 , 10:11 PM
Hey bob you're a cool dude. I don't really have any questions except a clarifier on your allin Lakers wager. Was it pre-playoffs, pre game 7, preseason? Didnt really catch the timeframe on the wager from the link you posted.

Thanks.
