maybe it was just a rogue agent, i dunno.
not a rogue agent, but an un-informed one who made a mistake

but in most countries it would be too dangerous to carry that 10k and prohibitive to play the poker in the first place. me and viffer and you were lucky to be born in the US as opposed to picking a country blindly from a hat... even if that means once in a while we have $59,000 confiscated from us by the police.

Re: warning to high stakes travelers!!

I was at the Flint airport with 25k in my pocket. Was going through the check and she says empty your pockets please because there was a buldge she could see. I yanked it and she says.. oh wait.. don't pull money out. Then she says.. actually let me look at it and she kinda flipped through it because it was thick and wanted to make sure nothing was hidden in it. Then they told me to never pull the money out again.

No I'm pretty sure this is policy. Something about it not being able to be used as currency. It's the equiv if carrying a 50k rolex, but in flags.

This is such a terrible argument and the exact opposite philosophy that this country was based on. If you recall it was the loyalists who shyed away from any conflict and told all of the patriots this: "it's all going to be OK guys, just let the British crown take our taxes, as long as we are left alone and aren't bound into serfdom like the peasants in Russia."

Now in 2008 there is an armada of american drones like you who just crouch away everytime the government takes away our civil liberties. FEMA, the patriot act, Homeland Security, the DEA, these are institutions established by the ruling order designed to take away our freedoms and control society. The founding fathers are rolling in their graves right now, this is not the nation they envisioned...

Checks 100% do not count. You can have $10,000,000 in checks and not declare them. However I am also pretty sure that you do have to declare gold. So there is some gray area there. Would be cool to get a firm answer in this thread, anybody wanna man up and call customs?

Money and Other Monetary Instruments
You may bring into or take out of the country, including by mail, as much money as you wish. However, if it is more than $10,000, you will need to report it to CBP. Ask the CBP officer for the Currency Reporting Form (FinCen 105). The penalties for non-compliance can be severe.
“Money” means monetary instruments and includes U.S. or foreign coins currently in circulation, currency, traveler’s checks in any form, money orders, and negotiable instruments or investment securities in bearer form
guess i thought checks because of the travellers checks. I've had actual checks counted at borders before tho some of the euro borders seem to be confused with the regulations

Isn't America great? A government agent is given the power to confiscate 50k on a whim and there's still some tard bleating about how at least he doesn't live in Europe.
