I have taken some pretty bd beats in my life, smmy farha one outed me for 360k pot all in on flop, brandon adams adams got it all in with 2 black kings on a 367 all red flop vs my 45 for 200k and i lost.. well today i took an even worse beat in the airport. I have spent the last week in toledo ohio with my girl friend meeting her parents staying at there house watching reruns of eight is enough and playing house ( actually her family is really cool and it was kinda fun but for this story we will stick to the reruns part ). We had originally planned to leave tonight and fly back to vegas togather. Some time today i decided to that i was gonna goto la and play in a poker game tonight and found a flight to la that left 20 min after hers, so after a hour at louis vouton she agreed to let me fly to la wile she flew back to vegas. Great life is good, we get to the airport and at the ticket counter i try and switch the ticket of course i cant so i buy a new one. Obviously they only have middle seats left and its 500 more for first class, no brainer give me first class!! I reach into my pocket pay the 800 for the plane ticket and off threw security we go. Mr peat have a nice flight they say as we pass threw security. We have about 45 minutes before her flight leaves so like any man i try and get her into the fmily bathroom for some last minute good byes, well as much as id like to say it went well, it didnt i got slapped we hugged and kissed and she went on her flight to vegas. i stopped got some thing to eat and headed to my gate. they preboarded everyone but i always wait tell the last person to get on plane.

i was standing against wall talking on phone when 2 guys ask my name, figure they work for airline and were asking if i was the last guy that hasnt checked in, i answered peat , david peat. They asked me to get off phone they had a few questions for me, they looked like bagage guys so i kinda laughed at them. THey showed me dea bdges so obviously i i hung up and answered there questions. they played good cop bad cop and i had about 15 thousand cash in my pocket and the bad cop asked why i had so much money on me, i told him what i did and where i was going. they relunctly let me board plane, so i walk down run way to get on plane and see a line of people so i get back on phone and start telling story mo foing the cops. im 5 feet from getting on plane and i see them coming back down the runway. they grab me and start asking me if i use an alias, im like no, wich i dont.. they ask me to fallow them and i miss flight. they take me to corner of the bagage claim and ask me to empty pockets and take off jewelry. i do. Now im starting to think i am getting robbed so i yell for someone to call the police they come over and say im screwed and theese guys are dea. 20 min later the dea guys tell me here is a reciept . you will get some thing in mail. they didnt count my money just bagged it, they just put watch on resiept , its a 50k rolex, and the reciept has no contact information on it at all.

i asked them to arrest me they wouldnt they just walked away of course i mother ****ed them and they said i was being disorderly so i said arrest me they wouldnt. '

The moral of the story appears to be to not troll DEA agents while carrying lots of cash/expensive jewelery.

it was at detroit airport, i had no drugs or any thing and i dont use any drugs so no weed residue or any thing around me, they said its being held for investigation and id get some thing in mil with in 60 days.

What the **** that makes no sense. As long as you fill out a form you can carry any amount of money you want (over 10k requires form). Seriously I sound like a typical hippie but as the last few years have gone by I have begun to hate the cops more and more, hope everything works out for you

i've tried to put wads of like 20k in a basket to send it through the xray thing and they are just like wtf put that back in your pocket. (apperently if anything gets stolen while u are going through security they are on the hook for it)

did you get names or badge numbers or anything on the guys who did this? i know that feds basically have unlimited power to **** with anyone they want to **** with but there has to be someone you can complain to.
fwiw, i don't think they can just keep your money, but they can probably hold onto it for a long time. getting a lawyer and finding out who to complain to is bound to expedite it.

i've had trouble at detroit airport too for just having ~7k in cash. made me answer a bunch of questions after i was randomly security searched and then let me go. weird.

you could try getting the airport security tapes? theres got to be some kind of evidence they took your ****...

obviously since i was on last flight out and couldnt get on new flight spent the next hour talking to police and complaining to anyone that would listen, i did find a pan handler that cared but only after i gave him a dollar and a cig! I didnt get scammed or robbed but basically the us goverment has the rigbht to just take. And now i have to prove that i should get back.

This sounds like a warrantless seizure (unconstitutional). They don't have to let you on the plane but they can't take your stuff without a warrant or some exception like seizure incident to arrest etc... You might want to talk to a lawyer.

You never have to answer their questions, but they obv would just tell you that you can't get on the plane if you do that.

I feel badly about what happened to you - hope it works out. But seriously, buying walk-up tickets with cash is a huge security flag. You will be subject to a lot of scrutiny...and you were. Book a seat online and this probably doesn't happen.

meh dunno I've done this 4 times now; almost always at very odd hours when I had no other options, etc and I've never had any problems at all..

Viffer - this really sucks man, sorry. I'm an airline pilot and have seen just about every kind of security BS at airports there is. I do know that if you buy a last minute ticket, you are VERY likely to get extra screening and a pat down by the TSA. I'm surprised this didn't happen. More than likely, the ticket agent who saw you pull out a huge wad of cash to buy the ticket, made mention of it to the authorities, who then came and found you.

But really, I'd call and talk to a good lawyer asap if I were you. This just doesn't sound right. They had to give you some kind of legit reason that they were taking your possessions. The 10K rule in cash is true though, however not always enforced. If they were taking your cash because you exceeded the 10K amount, that doesn't give them the right to take your watch. And you said they looked like baggage claim workers? This sounds really odd for the DEA.
