I'm not expert but this is exactly how i opened my Canadian Acct 2 years ago. Check from U.S. acct deposited to Canadian acct. Seems like if it works one way it should the other (deductive reasoning ITT), however I am not saying it's full proof.

cibc is an easy bank to open with; went and had an account open within 20 minutes. no minimum amount to seed the account, they are cool with poker players, they give you a bunch of official documents to send in, and best of all they have a chip and pin style card which will work out well for european travels. their documents can also be used as proof of residency for full tilt. td made me have some form of canadian id when i went in there, so f them.

Has anybody dealt with any kind of competent attorney in dealing with relocation? I'm ready to go, I just want to make absolutely sure I'm not going to get crushed legally somehow.

Thanks,

Andrew

They ended up accepting it after I had a manager sign it and stamp it with an official bank stamp.

I opened a TD Canada trust account two days ago in Fort Erie, Ontario with a US passport and a US drivers license. She didn't ask any questions about why we were in Canada (I was there with my wife) and just wrote down my US address directly from my drivers license as the address on the account. Today, I got an apartment and was able to change the address by just walking into a branch and telling them the new address in Canada (you don't need any proof of your address and you can do the address change online).

Carlos

I opened an account here in Mexico yesterday at Bancomer.

Didn't require an FM3. Went w my landlord and used one of her utility bills + my passport and FMM (tourist visa) and was able to open one rather quickly. Still need to get something printed out that has my name/account#/address on it to send to the poker sites but got the account opened at least.

Im going to do this soon. Actually considering leaving tomorrow. I have family in montreal so i would want to use that as my residence if possible. my biggest concern is.... Do i need a canadian photo ID? Or is bank account and proof of residence enough? If i need a canadian photo ID, How do i get one?

According to FTPdoug Q and A. He says you need proof of residence a bank account and a photo ID. From what ive read in this thread ive seen players moved to canada to get cash out. But ive seen no mention of getting a canadian photo ID. Do you need a canadian photo ID?

People are using non-Canadian ids, such as a USA passport or USA driver's license.

My FTP account just got verified (took less than 24 hours from sending everything in). I sent a lease, a utility (in landlord's name, not mine), my passport, and bank statement.

How did the process of getting an account opened at Bancomer go? Your landlord talked to them in Spanish and said you were staying in her place? And Bancomer wanted to see a utility bill with landlord's name? Thanks for the info just a little uneasy still about opening Mexican bank account.

can anyone help me figure out how to access my online statement through BMO online banking?

Thanks
Andrew

^^ for bmo i just went to a branch and they printed out just a paper w my account number and balance i think they called it a screencapture of account or something. i also asked the teller to use one of their official bank stamps to stamp it and she happily obliged. stars accepted this rightfully so it is legit. not saying you can't find one online btw i never checked so idk

I'm trying to get my account verified while the postal strike is going on here in Canada - customer rep. I spoke with said he'd e-mail me once he hung up, and I should take a picture of my bank statement (with local address) and attach it in my reply. This step was necessary after the moneybookers code wasn't showing up in my $15 withdrawal.

This was 9 hours ago . Anyone have any idea whom to e-mail it to there, their site seems to intentionally leave out contact e-mail addresses.

You upload it using the moneybookers site using the ticket number they gave in the email. Go to security and theres a tab to upload verification documents.

I just opened a BMO account a few days ago, doesn't seem like an online statement is available yet. I'm guessing you might need to wait a month before something is posted but I could be wrong.

I got one of these but it's just a page of text, w/o any type of BMO letterhead and it doesn't even look very official. I'll go back on Monday and ask them to reprint and stamp it.

FWIW, FTP has rejected my screenshots of an online utility bill and bank info. They seem to be looking for scans of end of the month statements. I'm guessing they would even reject the bmo stamped summary.

Pretty frustrating if I have to sit idle for a month until I can resubmit paperwork.

lol i was wondering why my moneybookers letter didn't come when i requested it over a week ago. heard ppl talking about a postal strike, but i never put it together. i was also real slow in realizing you need to dial 011 first to call moneybookers. must have tried at least 5 times lol

When i got my BMO account i told them that i needed clear proof of a Canadian bank account. I knew that this was an important step so i had them stamp and sign 6 different pages that included my canadian address. All this is available, you just have to ask.

A few questions:

1) When you open a Canadian bank account, do you just write them a check from your US account to fund it? Is there a limit to how much I can deposit initially?

2) Is it easy to open an account the day I cross the border without a US address and then to change it to a Canadian address once I find a place?

3) What forms of currency do you recommend bringing across the border to survive the first couple weeks? For example: If I am for some reason unable to open a Canadian bank account immediately, how else might I pay for my apartment deposit/first month's rent?

Thanks! First time out of US for me and haven't opened a new bank account in over a decade.

1) Yes, no limit (however, I would keep it under $10,000 to avoid any paper work)
2)Yes
3)Everyone accepts US dollars, especially on border towns. Many people and businesses even accept USD 1 for 1 with CAD, but at worst you can go to a bank (even without an account) and just pay the current exchange rate+about a 3% commission.

Carlos

also i noticed that when using my credit card, there is only a 1% fee added (compared to about 3% banks will charge), so i try to preserve whatever CAD cash i have and use my credit card whenever i can.

Capital One has no fees for using their credit cards internationally. I believe all the others do.
