I'd probably be bitching about a 3 outer for $400k too. :P

Anger first, then perspective.

I played last night with the guy who came in 6th(he played 10/20 after he busted lol), and wanted to say the same thing to him when he told us how unlucky he got.

wrong you are just some busto railbird grinder who has never been there and doesn't understand. 2nd place is just as much of a feeling of losing the difference between 1st and 2nd as it is winning 2nd place money

This. (more or less)

Emotionally, it just fu**ing sucks at the time. You were so close to winning, and it just gets taken away with a bad flop.

Even rationally: If you play a single tournament, yes a cash is generally (but not always) better than you're EV at the start of the tournament, and if you earn more than your EV, you got lucky.

However, if you play a lot of tournaments, so much of your annual income comes from 1-3rd place finishes, that a cash for 10 buyins really represents a missed chance at a rare 1-3rd place finish rather than a decent score.

Then again, despite having well over 2mil in live tourney cashes, I still have no idea what it feels like to cash for over 500k.

So you're saying people do like hearing others whine about winning 800k? Do you understand what KB24 wrote? Its almost like you're responding to something completely different than what he said.

CONGRATS on the mention in ny mag.

nycballer: I thought you were a douche after watching wsop this year, but reserved judgment as I know they like to depict people in certain ways. After reading your snap-douche/WTF? reply to KB24, it is obvious that you are not only an ultra-douche, but also a moron lacking the 3rd grade reading comprehension skills it takes to decipher ONE SENTENCE statements.

nycballer's delivery sucks, but his message is 100% right, getting 2nd place just ****ing sucks for at least a few days. bitching in a public forum may or may not be in bad taste, but bitching to your friends, or generally being unhappy and disappointed with the result, is completely standard.

he was implying that there is something wrong with jason whining about it because of the amount of money he won. this is the high stakes forum, not the real world, consider the audience. you can only understand why its ok to whine if you've been there before or you live in the high stakes world. wow that sounds douchey but its the truth i don't know how else to say it.

i was a douche because i talked ****? god you guys are such ****ing nerds. its not fun to sit at a table and not say a word. its not my personality, its not my style and most of all its boring as hell. the biggest pot i played they didnt even show cause it was me vs one of the mutes at the table. did u not see me bustout and go shake phil's hand with a big smile on my face? its all in good fun. you are allowed to have fun at a poker table and not just talk about the EV of reraising AQ vs a cutoff open from a 40 vpip player. christ i want to kill the people who talk like that at a poker table

If you win 800k in a few days playing a game and are upset about it, maybe you should find a new career. I don't mean to hop up on a soapbox and provide moral/life advice because I certainly am not qualified. But the lows of poker are much greater than +800k weeks, I simply don't understand how you can deal with the lows if you are upset after such a big score, where you got incredibly lucky(not a knock, just the nature of tournaments).

FWIW I don't think bikini wax's comments are in poor taste, they just make him look like a douche, but who knows I've never met the guy.

But w/e its just a post on a internet forum.

why quit a carreer that makes you win 800k in a few days playing a game?
10-27-2009 , 10:55 PM
man the thing is a lot decent amount of people are going to probably be pretty disappointed after getting 2nd in a big tourney. Youre so close to first but just come up short. Its just the feeling you get when you come so close to the win. Obviously i would be soooooooo happy if i won 800k but theres still that disappointment for not winning.

With anger or disappointment it helps to vent a little instead of just internalizing it. Wheres the best place he can talk bout being upset with a 2nd place finish even though he just made a life changing amount of money?
10-27-2009 , 10:58 PM
theres also a big difference between being a huge factor on the final table with a good stack going heads-up or just trying to squeeze in and come in the heads up with 10% of the chips and finishing second.

(which happens a LOT of the time)

10-28-2009 , 02:05 AM
agreed it comes off as slightly douchy wtv i prolly had about 2 bottles of dom in my belly when i posted that fwiw lol
10-28-2009 , 02:47 AM
no need to explain urself imo
10-28-2009 , 02:47 AM
anyone who's played tourneys semi-seriously knows the pain of being runner up.

sure its a great ROI but it's just sooo unsatisfying. losing sucks, and thats all you feel at the time. it definitley takes a day or two before everything sets in.

being upset right after is pretty standard and i dont think its douchey at all
