Selbst - just an awesome poker player and good fun too. Called her tennis shot out at the Meridian, Las Vegas and she just about did a John McEnroe... (maybe it got some of the line but I was committed at that point)

I don't care if you mean it as a compliment, or you think you're teaching us something about the male psyche -- we already know most of you are distracted by boobs. That doesn't mean we want to use our boobs/bodies to render you stupid. It doesn't happen as often in a reverse gender situation where women insult men by suggesting that their looks, or their big dicks, are their biggest asset and that they should use it to their advantage since they couldn't possibly compete on any other level, but it would be just as insulting if it did.

I personally don't care for Vanessa Selbst's attitude, but I appreciate that she is one of the most successful female poker players DESPITE the fact that she doesn't use her boobs to reach success.
I stopped posting in this forum shortly after it opened for this very reason! The women, even the women who claim to be winning players on here, were all admitting that they use their breasts and sexuality at the tables. I'm not even a hardcore feminist and I see how insulting and demeaning that is. If you have poker skills, use them. Men don't drag out their ***** at the table to distract me.
And I also agree about Vanessa Selbst. Anyone who says that she only acts like that at the tables hasn't spent much time with her. She's a raging bitch who berates people about lots of things, not only at the tables. I think she makes it harder for women at the tables because she is a good player but she cannot handle being bluffed or beaten.

I don't know her personally, but I remember seeing some expose' on her (several years before Poker Central was around), and I thought "what an a**hole".

I agree with you that she is a sore loser, and I despise that the most. I despise that in all poker players, or any sports players for that matter. Losing is part of the game, deal with it.

Vanessa Selbst is a bad representative for women and homosexuals in poker.

I do not recall that she ever put herself out there as a 'representative' of lesbians in poker. She is a poker player who happens to be lesbian...

Just played with Vanessa Selbst at Foxwoods, and agree that she probably wouldn't be considered an "ambassador of the sport".

She's a magnificent player of course, but I saw her get it in horribly on two occasions on continued bluffed streets. She proceeded to demean/question the callers when the hands were turned over and she lost. This, after opening a crazy high percentage of pots and playing her usual aggressive game.

Any time she had to give up a pot, she acted as though someone ran over her puppy.

She bought in at least 3X for the event (non unusual, I'm sure), including a direct Day 2 entry.

Our Day 2 table included Mike Dentale, and the tension was fun to watch. Mike did his best to chat her up before busting a couple hours into the day. He acted like the kid in Junior High who thinks everyone likes him, but doesn't get it. Inappropriately denigrated the dealer who told him he couldn't eat his Subway foot-long at the table. The "how dare you treat me according to the rules" type of behavior.

Vanessa busted later in the day on one of the two monster bluff-offs.

I know this is a specific thread, but the fact is that all these pros have to do is act nice and behave themselves, don't act like they are above the rules and they'd be considered decent ambassadors. Guess that's too tough sometimes. #sad.

Vanessa Rousso proves that an attractive female poker player can also be competitive and not just doing it for attention or some sort of fame.

Best female repsesentatives are women like Vicky Coren and Gaelle Bauman who are successful and don't show boobs; serious, likeable and respectable. And of course Kara Scott has worked for so many years promoting the game.

Why there are so few women in poker? It's a good question.

I think there needs to be more support for Maria Ho. She is a badass poker player that is currently in the lead at the WSOP Main Event final table! She does excellent commentary on a variety of poker shows and everybody likes Maria Ho!

Honestly, I used to dislike her as a player. I think it was all that giggly silly girl energy with Tiffany Michelle, or whatever her name is, so I couldn't really take her seriously. But I will say, I've noticed a difference in the last couple of years, and I'm starting to change my opinion about her.

I said Maria Ho in this thread 4 years ago. Her friendship with Tiffany Michelle did her no favors but most probably don't even know about the dramas from 2008.

Vicky Coren from a European perspective, definitely. I give props to Vicky for being a pioneer and having released a great book, For Richer, For Poorer: Confessions of a Player.
