Untz untz - Final round of EDC Vegas tickets go out tomorrow, in case anyone else is interested. I'll be hopefully making my 3rd and last trip (for a while) this summer - it's during WSOP for anyone who didn't know.

Lots of colourful, scantily-clad women and chiseled bros to watch, if that is your thing.
Pretty accepting place overflowing with love, not to be missed.

This is just something that bothers me, maybe someone out there can shed some light:

I had a distant, substance-abusey father (he is dead).
I am gay, so I basically fit right into Freud's hand. I can see a lot of that is BS and sufficiently debunked at this point, but I still harbor some weird feelings about this. I'm guessing this is just me being crazy (but that **** runs in the family, yadig?)

The second part is my attraction to men who are usually much older. I feel like I just insta get labeled with Daddy issues and people think I'm just messed up / looking for father figure. I can pretty much always remember my attraction leaning to the same type of man, but I'm mildly dating someone for the first time, and it is getting more serious. I feel like I must figure out things before I can love and all that bull****, otherwise I'm just pathetically messy and blech.

Spoiler:
optimistically, love is love, and that's all there is, but again, I'm crazy - enlighten me lovely peeps

Talk to a therapist. No one on here is going to be able to give you the sort of help you are looking for but a good therapist will do wonders. Be willing to look around a bit for the right one.

But I will say Freud is a piece of **** and I wouldn't buy too much into what he says.

All available evidence so far points to sexual orientation being the result of some interplay of genetics and the intrauterine environment (as in, things after birth haven't been shown to matter). So if you meant that you think maybe your father being "distant" and "substance-abusey" had something to do with you being gay, the answer is probably not.

I can't help at all on this part of it, but I like the phrase "mildly dating."

I've been around the crazy rodeo for years - I know therapists and meds.

This is just getting to be a present issue as opposed to a "bridge to be crossed."

Wrote my post impulsively, wanted to delete it, but figured it'd be a waste and why should I care how irrational I seem on the internet?

I'm sorry for the personal derail that approaches relevance in this thread.

idk willie. I will say though that I think you can do wonders with self reflection. I haven't gone to a shrink since I was a kid and I've come to a lot of understanding about myself and family with just self reflection. That's not to say don't see a shrink though. I should probably see one myself.

I only have one more hurdle to clear and then my research is finally approved by the university. Might be too late for me to graduate in the spring, tho.

Regardless, I expect everyone here to take my survey (completely anonymous) and ask all your friends/coworkers/whatever to take it as well.

Help me graduate, for the love of all that is holy!

So I've been lurking around these forums for quite a long time and had never noticed this thread before yesterday. I can't believe this has been here all this time. Nice to see some fellow LGBTQA people in this part of the web.

Anyway, I just really wanted my first post to be in this thread and looking forward, hopefully, to getting to know some of you better.

Thanks everyone seems like a friendly enough bunch. I don't have my much overlap between my poker life and my social life otherwise, so I have to say this is very cool.

Sure. I live in Indiana right now, back in my hometown working on a second college degree and a career change. Play 1/2-5/10 cash games, mostly in local charity rooms or private games, but I also get up to Firekeepers in Michigan on occasion, and more often to Horseshoe Hammond.

I have a BA in English/Journalism from Indiana University in Bloomington and I am currently working on a BS in Computer Science from a regional campus of IU/Purdue.

Can I get some popcorn as well?

Getting ready to head to my local room here in a bit and play some $2/$5 with players more focused on NFL playoffs than cards. Should be fun.

@LirvA: You got a soda in there too? That popcorn made my mouth dry just looking at it.
