So uh... off the current date searching topic...

Homophobia at the poker table! Obviously it happens (along with sexism and racism), how do you guys respond? Personally I usually tell the person making the comments that I find their language unacceptable, and pretty much every time they have apologized and stopped.

If they are making general comments not in my direction, sexist or racist ones included, especially if at the dealer, I tell them that is unacceptable. If they are berating the dealer (this seems to happen most often), and don't shut up, I call the floor over, and that usually shuts the person up or the floor removes them.

I have had women dealers all over Vegas wind up recognizing me years later because I do this.

If they are making comments in my direction, well, they get it back far worse, which usually results in them tilting off and/or leaving lol.

There's several other's in this very thread, besides those two.

I bet there's more out there in the poker world, that we aren't aware of.

Part of the point of this thread.

This.

There are certainly players who are don't want to disclose to the poker world, or just don't see why it's necessary, but there are certainly a lot more LGBT players than most would assume.

Hardly surprising that some wouldn't want to disclose, given that the game is dominated by young males. How many people in other games/sports disclose?

Which is an entirely different issue, of course, and I do think we'll see an openly gay player in a major US sport within the next 30 years or so.

Two time NFL Pro Bowl Tight End, 13 year member of the Washington Redskins and honoree of their Ring Of Fame, Jerry Smith took no action to hide his homosexuality during his career. He played from 1965-1977. Other gay NFL players of that era speak admiringly of the courageous way that Jerry Smith chose to live his life during an era where public hostility was likely far greater than today.
