As promised in the NC thread, here's our thread for baking (both sweet and savory).

I've started saving a few calories all week so that I can bake something indulgent on Sundays-- funny how just a few months ago Sunday was my busiest work day.

Here was tonight's:



It's a French chocolate tartlet in a pate sucree crust. The decorations are just sucree cookies with ganache filling (and sprinkled with 10x sugar), held up by chocolate moose. One the top is a toasted almond sliver. Hard to tell scale in picture, but it is about the size of a big cupcake.

It is a super rich chocolate tart, but it is among my favorite deserts of all time, and it was as great as always. Beat: need to go running now.

Anyone bake anything good lately?

My baking isn't usually that elaborate, but I do cook on pretty much a daily basis. Some of it is pretty basic, but I recently made a homemade roasted corn and poblano chowder, I'll try my hand at pretty much anything. I think a lot of dishes are actually a lot easier than people think - for instance, homemade pizza is the norm in my house (apartment, w/e). Why order or buy pizza when making your own takes less than an hour and you can alter the toppings to your liking?

I'll post my pizza crust recipe at some point.

I'm with you on that! But Fresh and Easy by me has great $1.49 whole wheat pizza dough, and a lot of times I just end up being lazy + buying that. Still, it is so much better than ordering delivery. Earlier this week I made baby pizzas with cherry tomatoes and scallions.

True story: My mom actually baked the cakes for my brother and SIL's wedding. And it was cakes, plural; for some reason, there were a staggering four cakes (yellow, white, carrot, and spice). Or maybe it was just different tiers, although the spice cake was the groom's cake and was a definite stand alone. I can't remember that well, I got plastered at the reception.

Anyone have any baking plans in the works? Might be bringing cookies to a couple friends in town that have helped me with a few things lately. Also going to visit my Mom later this month, and have plans to bake for the dogs lol.

In other news, I only just realized a few of the many possible innuendos in the title of this thread.

Trying to find pics of a wedding cake I made for one of my besties. Till then try this recipe for delish cookies
1 cup of softened butter
2 cups of chocolate chips (semi sweet)
1 teaspoon of baking soda
3 cups of normal all purpose flour
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon mint extract
Pinch of salt

Bake at 350 make sure oven is pre-heated

Mix the sugars and the butter, add eggs and vanilla keep beating till smooth. Water down the baking soda in warm water (same teaspoon), add the baking soda and the rest of the ingredients to mix.
Once you have a thickish consistency scoop and add onto cookie sheet and bake for 8 - 9 mins.

Mint Chocolate chip itt! Never actually made them before (have made plain old chocolate chip cookies quite a lot though). Are they even better than plain ones?

I'm a mint freak so yea it gives them a bit of extra *POW*

Does the extract make the cookies green?

Gotta be careful with mint extract, a little goes a long way.

Omg i'm one of those weirdos who is always taking pictures of her food. I however, am virtually never responsible for baking it. Soooo...I apologize in advance for my lack of participation but please know I certainly appreciate any effort the baking inclined TWSS members put forth.

tyty. i always make bundt's imo even tho they take like twice as long in the oven.
