Lol, I'm living in denial? Bro, I live here, you don't. How about you stop reading/believing everything on the internet and take a nice trip south and drink a pina colada.

I have been to Mexico many times, and believe me I have felt more in danger in most major US cities.

Re: My move to Mexico for online poker

This thread was great I was going to follow it but it has turned into idiots arguing that Mexico isnt safe .. Would you guys listen the woman she said she feels perfectly safe in the area she lives and there are lots of Americans were she is and the locals realize that the American population in their town helps their local economy Plus SHE GETS TO PLAY POKER. I bet the people arguing it is not safe are the people who dont even own a passport and have never been out of America in their lives.

People lets get back to talking about Poker !

Re: My move to Mexico for online poker

I moved here a month ago and I walk around at night consistently, even in Tijuana, by myself sometimes, usually with friends. Now i'm not saying walking around at night by yourself is the greatest idea, but I will say from what I've seen in the area I live, it's mostly tourists and retirees. I have felt safer here in Mexico actually in the areas I've been than in a lot of US cities.

Don't knock Mexico until you've been there. The average American's perception of it could not be more out of whack. I lived there for a year and know ex-pat poker players in many of the major cities. Mexico is a goddamn paradise. I was paying a mere $600/month for my own bedroom and bathroom just minutes from the Pacific Ocean in a city with nicer weather than San Diego!

Obviously the Texas Department of Safety is going to tell you to stay home; it's in their best interests for you to spend your tourist money in Texas, not Mexico.

Mexico isn't third world. My first night there I ate in the Hardrock Cafe which was right next to Starbucks and Burger King where I used their WiFi to contact my friends who were already in town. Aside from some foods native to the US I had every comfort of home. I didn't have 3g on my phone because I was still on my American plan, but could have had it if I wanted it.

You're looking at samples that are skewed to present a certain perception because people accept what they perceive as reality. If you take the time to research the places where poker players are moving to you will find minimal crime or cartel activity. I would have never moved there if I couldn't objectively say I'd feel safe.

The numbers don't lie, so do the research and you'll see what the real Mexico is like.

Agreed, well put, statistics are so easy to take out of context, too many sources are tainting the information via biases. Rather than giving you a whole pie with an assortment of various pieces they give you only a stingy strawberry slice. Apparently the blueberry and blackberry slices and what not don't taste good to them, lose-lose.

Yea, I mean, you could literally apply all those 'scare' statements and information/websites about Mexico to any big city in the US. Last time I checked, people were still being murdered and kidnapped in the good ole' USA.

Re: My move to Mexico for online poker

Took the day off from poker today...had a pretty good week on Poker Stars with final tables in the Hot $44, the $22c, the $11r, the $5r and the $3r...but still no 1st's....gonna fix that soon though

One of my best friends and fellow TWSS mod, as well as fellow Grindette, Katie "hotjenny314" Dozier and I took our dogs to the beach today and had a great time!! She also gave me the most adorable Christmas present which I will post later on. For now though, some pics from today's beach outing!

It just seems so strange, our big brothers down south (I'm Canadian) have to leave the country to play on the big sites. Look at the bright side, tax free now.

You are misinformed. Unless they are living outside the US for 330 days in a 12 month period, then they should be paying taxes. If they do live outside US for 330+ days, then they are exempt up to their first $95k or so.

QFT. Keep in mind this is all trips for the year. If you decide to spend a month at the WSOP and a week at your family for Christmas, you don't qualify. I remember keeping all of my travel receipts to prove I wasn't in the US. You also need to make sure you're covering all you're Mexican taxes owed.

I just tried it for a month. I thought it sucked. I can see why some people would like it but it was definitely not paradise. Daily checkpoints was probably the most annoying thing. And everything about the country just feeling really low budget/dirty.

Yes, you keep your same account, they just change your country/address when you move.

Re: My move to Mexico for online poker

Mexico update:

Poker has been good. Been making a ton of deep runs, but have not closed anything big yet. A bunch of final tables just to tease me . I have had over $50k in buyins over the past month and have been profitable with an average buyin of just under $44.
I feel like I am definitely at the top of my game and I improve every day. I have some great friends who help me frequently including 2+2 reg and online superstar Rowniwn as well as my roommate/2+2 reg/inductee into the 'Hottest Guys in Poker Thread' on here, cyluscylus. They both have been very helpful lately.

fslexcduck also came down here for the FTOPS main event last weekend and stayed with me and I learned a ton just by grinding and talking with her over the weekend, in addition to having a genuine good time with a fellow female poker player So overall, I'm really excited where my game is going...this combined with the excellent backing/funding I have where I am able to play so many good tournaments...I really feel like the next level for me is right around the corner.

I'm grinding through the holidays in Mexico, and will try to take advantage of the lack of US regs, since many of them are home for a month or so. Hoping my next post is a brag post of a big win!

Below are a few recent pics of my time in Mexico

Veggies purchased from local organic growers

Recent trip to Ensenada Fish Market

Early Christmas present received a few weeks ago from hotjenny314 and Rylee really wanted to be in the pic as well
