Thought I would start a thread documenting my adventures here in Mexico...since it really is an adventure and it is really just so beautiful here, so the pics need to be seen!

I moved to Rosarito last week with Ben Yu (ProfessorBen on 2p2) and Clayton Newman (Clayton on 2p2), two friends of mine who also play poker full time.
Both of them are more higher stakes players than me; I'm a low to mid stakes mtt grinder and so while I put in more hours than they do, they play a bunch of different games at higher stakes and so they have more interesting hands that are fun to talk about.

I came down here with just one small suitcase of clothes, my laptop and monitor and about a week's worth of grinding snacks and protein drinks. I'm going back to Vegas for a day or two this weekend to get more clothes and stuff like allergy medication and flip flops, though.

I can't really explain the feeling I had when I logged into PokerStars less than a day after submitting all my documents and was able to sit down and play a real money game from Mexico for the first time since April 15, 2011. It was such a life-changing time for me when Black Friday happened and I really can't believe it's been that long since I have been online. On one hand it feels like a lifetime ago and on the other hand it feels like yesterday.

I hit the ground running on stars, and over the past 4 days have been averaging 50 mtts/day and about 165 VPPs/day putting me at Silver status on Stars about midway through my session tomorrow (I took today off).

I will try to update this thread once a week or so with new pics and updates of my grind For now, here are the pics I took a few days ago that I posted on FB and sent to my mom so she knew I was alive and in a safe place, lol.

Well it's pretty gosh darn cold here in Jersey, so I'm jealous. Your view is spectacular and it sounds like you hit the ground running. Keep it going. Good luck.

It def depends on the day/time.
On my way there for the first time I went on a Wednesday night and made it into the San Diego area around 5pm traffic time. So that added an additional hour to the trip.
Also, the border crossing going back into the US can take anywhere from 40 min to 3 hours. So you have to plan accordingly.
My first trip down there took about 8 hours.
My first trip back to Vegas took 5 hours.
My second trip back to Mex yesterday took 7 hours.

The rents here vary, as in any place.
But the quality to price ratio here is way better than in the US.
You can get really nice places, fully furnished 2bedroom condos or houses for 750-1k/month right on the water.
Having roommates helps with the costs, and almost everyone here has roommates.

Last night my roommates and I went to dinner with hotjenny and Mr. hotjenny, and we had a great time! My dinner cost me $7 total, and the leftovers have provided 2.5 additional meals. Gives a whole new meaning to the term 'value town', doesn't it??!!

The first thing I said when we walked into the restaurant K38, was that we wanted a lot of guacamole and so this is what they brought us:

It is def as good as it looks, too!

I've started trying to go outside for a walk each day before I start my grind on stars. It's so pretty not to take advantage of it, and a little bit of sunlight is also good for your happiness! On my walk today, I took some amazing pics of the grounds...I will never get tired of these views. It def makes it a little bit easier to recover when the online grind doesn't go well that day.

What is the crime rate like in that town? North Mexico is somewhat of a hotbed of drug cartels, but that town looks very serene. Not a bad drive to LV either, hell it takes me that long just to get out of FL.

As a plant nursery owner, def enjoying plant pictures. Please post more!

I love taking pictures of flowers, trees and plants. It's probably the only other profession I would be truly happy in.

As far as crime, this is a pretty sleepy little resort town only 20 miles south of San Diego. Everyone is just really nice and appreciative, I think, of the boost in their economy. There are over 100 poker players here, and we are all in a chat group on Skype. So if anything good or bad happens, we hear about it pretty fast! There is also a movie production studio a few miles up the road where some really famous movies have been filmed; hotjenny told me most of 'Titanic' was filmed there, so this community is pretty used to Americans in general.

Hi katie.. This place is gorgeous, I wish you the best with your travels and your grind hope you win the sunday million or something.

Unreal how beautiful and cheap that place is, so tempting to leave Canada to leave there as I would never be able to afford a place that nice even close to where I live. So tempting to move..........
