I had an interesting situation last weekend here in Las Vegas. A young punk sat down and bought in for the minimum ($60) at a $1/2 NL game. He was one of those dorks who thought he new everything and proceeded to become the table captain, announcer and coach (very annoying but profitable).
I had been playing for a couple of hours before said punk showed up and I was having a grand time with the other men at the table. Really sweet, nice gentlemen.
Punk raised UTG $15. I had been happily losing and was ready to go home. I shoved my last $60 with K
J
on the button. At that time, one of my favorite dealers stood behind me to say "Hi". The guys at the table started to comment how that might be bad luck. While the punk went into the tank to "think" I told everyone how this dealer had dealt me my only live Royal in 5 years of playing. (I won a whopping $7 from the hand
).
Punk calls and flips over A
K
. I thought "crap-I'm going home to wash my hair". Flop comes and my second favorite dealer peels off Q
10
3
. We all went WHOPPEEEEEEE!!!!
I had the K-high flush and was open ended to my second Royal.
PUNK GOES BALLISTIC! He starts in with the b-word, the c-word, the f-word (you get my point).
Right then an there about 4 "gentlemen" at the table stand up and start telling the punk that he "can't talk to a lady like that". My 2 dealer friends also reprimand the kid and the floor comes over and ask the punk to leave (he had to go anyway--I stacked him).
I was sooooo thrilled to learn that there are still gentlemen in the world today who will protect a lady and stand up for a woman at the table. I find that more often than not, the men I play with are respectful, sweet, encouraging and PROTECTIVE. I have had sweet guys offer to walk me to my car after I've sucked-out on an a-hole.
The a-holes are few and far between. Most of the men I play with at the low-limit-live games are gems.
Don't ever be afraid of playing poker with the boys...they might surprise you.
