Are live female tourney players really bad? Are live female tourney players really bad?

I've watched some of the female-only tournaments and have played with some of the entrants when the tournaments are going in cash games - and they seem to all play a really passive fit or fold strategy and really don't have much understanding of any advanced poker concepts. I overheard a conversation recently from another woman about how some players were not even betting , much less raising with the nuts. It seems to me like more of a social club for most of these women and learning the game is not really a priority.

The main reason I ask is that I'm thinking of getting a couple female friends I know involved in these tournies. They are basically engineers, don't play poker, but I feel from what I've seen that if I gave them like an hour lesson in poker fundamentals they would be in the top 10-15% at these female tournaments.

What are your takes here on the level of play in these tournies?

Hmm...85 views, no replies. I hope this wasn't offensive, I figure the women posting here at 2p2 are pretty decent players, and I'm also referring to the low entry fee tournies that pop up in these regional events. I just think someone who took the game more seriously than the average player could do pretty well in these.

Omg this sounds EXACTLY like the $400 Borgata $50k I'm playing in right now!!! So weird. You should come play!
Wait...are you already here? Let's do dinner break! Maybe I could get 45 minutes of your one hour lesson on poker mastery.
