Hi. I thought that making introductions would be nice.

My name is Jessica. I play 2/5NL, stud and PLO. I have been playing poker since 2006. I lived in Vegas for a few years but when I met my husband, I moved to New England. I played very irregularly from 2008-2010 because I had a daughter. I am now back on the grind, playing 20-25 hours per week, mainly at Foxwoods.
I love poker. I like the mental challenge and well as the social aspect. My best friends in life are all poker players.

Hey all, it's me HiFi

I've been playing since 2006 and my preferred game is PLO (love the 2/5 game at the Borgata and 5/5 at Del Park when I can get them to spread it). I play nlhe tourneys or LO8/PLO8 cash occasionally. I'm a student, getting ready to apply to vet schools. I just fell off my horse and broke my back 2 weeks ago, so since then I've been posting more on 2p2 (especially in the monstrosity that is POG) and playing more online which I don't normally do much. I have a love/hate relationship with poker. It was all I did for about 18 months and I got really burned out on it at the end and didn't play at all for about a year after that. Now I've been easing back into poker and am actually enjoying it again.

I hope this forum sticks around.

Hey everyone

My name is Katie (shocker, lol).
I play online and live mtt's for a living...which is pretty brutal most of the time. lol.
I came from the 'chess world' and started playing live poker in 2004; started online poker in Jan. 2010 (late bloomer, lol).
I'm katie75013 on stars and ftp and I put in full 8-10 hour sessions pretty much daily, unless there is some live series going on that I am playing. Depending on what mood I am in (and the financial health of my backers), I'm either country-hoping playing live events (all of 2009), or at home in Dallas playing strictly online (most of 2010) or at my other residence in NJ playing live events (last part of 2010 and 1st half of 2011).

Hello

Name's Claire. I too am an ex-chess player.
I just started playing online about 3-4 months ago, wish I had discovered it earlier.
I'm pretty solid in NLH cash games now, after reading several books and spending way too much time on this forum. Currently working on my skill in the HORSE games.
I'm an unemployed second semester senior at a top business school, so I might play as a side thing if I don't get a job after I graduate.

Hey,

I'm Jamie, I play under 'and the law won' on full tilt. I'm a full-time tax attorney, but spend a lot of my free time playing online mtts, live 5/10 at Parx and Borgata, and travel for live events whenever I can sneak away from work.

I played poker for a living for 2 years after getting laid off from my first firm job. I spent the past 2 summers living in Vegas and the rest of the year travelling a lot.

I got lucky and found a good job that doesn't take up all my time 6 months ago. I miss the freedom of the poker lifestyle sometimes, but actually prefer having the stability and a "home base" that I have now.

Maybe I'll be back at it someday, I'm not sure yet.

Nice to meet everyone

The 18 months where I played for a living were immediately after I got laid off from my trademark paralegal job/before I figured out I wanted to be a vet. Good times.

Pretty awesome, hifi, I considered vet school after law school (not kidding) but I wasn't financially suicidal enough to take on more student loans.

The best part about being a nomadic poker player for 2 years is that I don't feel stuck in this job. I consider other options all the time.

PM if you don't mind telling me how you like vet school...that's always been my Plan B...or maybe C after poker.

I'm not in vet school yet (applying this summer if my broken back allows me to finish out this semester in any kind of salvageable fashion) but I will be happy to PM you tales of my application nightmares/weird vet related experiences/how it came to be that I'm applying to vet school at 27 instead of already in practice, etc. Or I can just prattle on endlessly about the above in the low content thread so everyone can see my ramblings.

Yea, this is pretty funny....I ALSO considered vet school, when I was getting out of chess and into poker. I have had horses (and still do) for most of my life and was going to get great letters of recommendation (due to sub par undergrad performance, lol) from my equine vets who I had been dealing with (and assisting) for years with my own horses. Wanted to go to Texas A&M (close to home) or Univ of Penn (mom's an alum).

Pretty much seeing sick pattern of girls, horses, poker. lol.

don't look at me, i have close to zero interest in equine medicine. i actually think i want to work with dairy cattle but it's been tough for me to get exposure to the field since i live in a big city. what little experience i've had i've absolutely loved.

but i'll probably just end up doing small animal clinical practice just like everyone else, especially if i go somewhere out of state and end up racking up loans

I would highly recommend Texas A&M if you really wanted to get out of the city! Many of my equine vets and my small animal vet/friend of 10 years have gone there and have nothing but great things to say about it. I do hear it is very competitive though. One of my equine vets who went there literally wrote the book on equine founder issues...at least, it is the most recent/highly utilized book/authority on founder...it's actually a required text book at A&M.

However Penn's feral herd of horses that they maintain/study has always been super interesting for me...thus the reason I was torn when entertaining the idea of vet school all those years ago.

Hey there, I'm Beth. I have been playing poker since 2006. I play mostly live NLHE MTTs and some NL cash. I work full-time in the medical field and attend grad school at night for elementary education. Any free time I have left is devoted to learning more about poker!

It's pretty tough to get into Texas A&M from out of state, but it's hard to get into vet school period. I'm somewhat put off by their application process because you have to jump through a whole bunch of hoops *just for them* and frankly it seems like too much of a pain to be worth it when I can just apply to other schools so much more easily.

Hi everyone, Jennifer here.

I'm a chessplayer/coach, editor, author, video producer, etc. (to make a career today in gaming/media you often have to do a lot of things at once!)

I've been playing live and online MTTs sporadically for five years but in the past year, I've become more involved in the poker world. My results have improved lately and I hope my play, sometimes unclear , I often feel that the main thing I'm better at now is finding good tournaments, profitable satellites, etc which I guess is just another way of saying even in MTTs, game selection is v.important (key mourning for death of Ladies 55s on Stars).

I find the culture around poker to be as fascinating as the game itself, though sadly it's often not very pro-woman. I'm glad Katie, who I know in person, had the gumption to push this forum.

I've also met Jamie irl, judging from her facebook posts she is def kicking butt lately. Grats girl!

Look forward to meeting more of you.

Hmm. I'm not a woman, & I don't really play chess, but I am an attorney & my mom's a vet (she went to vet school in her 40s, so I wouldn't worry bout 27).

So I would say I'm about half-qualified to moderate y'all.

I'm Blue and I play recreationally. I work as a nurse and have never aspired to grind for a living or anything like that. This is wise on my part since I'm a terrible losing player. I very much enjoy playing.

My favorite game is 6max cash, preferably 2 levels higher than I'm properly rolled for and against people ridiculously better than me. I also play the odd tourney here and there.

I do not know who jenium is, but she seems over qualified at life.

Spoiler:
Hi Daisy, HiFi, TL!

My name is also Katie lol. I'm 25 and an MTTer, who started out in SNGs. I also write/edit on poker, coach, make training videos, etc. I just moved to Vegas, and am loving it so far!

Maybe we could do a meetup this summer.

Hello!

I've been playing poker since 2006 - mostly live, but occasionally online. I enjoy non-NLH cash games the most (O-8, draw / mixed games), but the easy money in LV is at the NLH tables.

I worked in corporate finance in NYC for 8 years (part of it on the legal side, part of it on the business side) before moving to LV in 2008. I met my boyfriend playing O-8 at the Venetian He posts a lot on 2+2, but I've mostly been a lurker.

I'm not yet sure how I feel about this women-centric forum. I certainly would love to see a higher representation of women in poker. The problem for me is that the more women-centric things there are in poker (e.g., ladies events), the more I feel it reinforces the view that there is an inherent gender disparity when it comes to men and women in poker.

I'm all for a meet-up!
