I think it's safe to say that those of us who are thinking about this stuff and about ways to take care of our minds and bodies are a lot better off poker-wise than someone like this who makes a statement like that.

I agree. I'm relatively svelte, tho, so you son't have to worry about me.

For anyone who hasn't tried it yet, I just had some laughing cow light cheese wedges with some whole grain crackers, really good! I got the quesco fresco and chipotle flavor but they had something like 8 different flavors. They're pre-cut into wedges so its easy to just grab one or two with your crackers when you have a quick break

Pretty funny that I have those exact brands/flavors on my kitchen table right now. Although lately I have been headed towards less sweet flavors...and so been choosing the Odwalla bars instead. But the Clif Bar has a peanut butter pretzel bar that is pretty good and not too sweet.

I don't consider myself too spoiled or anything: I don't splurge on shopping trips or designer brands and I don't have a sick shoe or handbag habit. I pretty much only spend money when it comes to my hair and eyelashes (I get NovaLash eyelash extensions...totally addicted with no chance of recovery and my color, cut and Keratin straightening is done by a legitimate world class stylist (sick brag) who I will fly to Dallas for when I'm not there). But I will admit that one of my dreams is to someday have a personal chef who comes to my house daily and cooks yummy healthy food for me. Then I am sure I will have much more interesting grinding foods to write about

Discovered Chobani Greek Yogurt a few weeks ago...def best yogurt I have ever had...not so sweet like everything else. Decent amount of protein, nothing artificial and only 160 calories/serving. If you can find it in your store, I recommend trying it. Pineapple is my fav!

Awesome post. Being hungry or low on blood sugar can definitely affect play/induce tilt, all that good (bad) stuff.

Things that I've found to be helpful to my game:

Getting my workout in first, pre-grind
Having meals pre-made that I can easily grab during the 5 minute break (black beans and brown rice are an awesome, healthy meal - perfect carbs/protein)
Snacks - small handful of unsalted almonds, protein shake, sliver of good, sharp cheese, blueberries and lots and lots of water.

Someone mentioned metabolism and I've found that eating throughout the day helps (for example, a good rule of thumb would be 8 (breakfast), 10 (snack), 12 (lunch), 2 (snack), 5/6ish (dinner)).

It's a never ending struggle though...especially the older I get, ugh.

Then again - just disregard my last post...I really didn't provide too many helpful snacks! Really, my healthy faves are almonds, stoneyfield yogurt, granola, blueberries, cheese...but if I had my way, it would be Coca-Cola, homemade popcorn w/ real butter, doritos, munchos and snickers bars for desert.

This is my routine, fat free greek yogart or a fruit smoothie made with soy milk and honey, bag of dried apricots in my purse, salad with grilled chicken at table. I will also occasionally bring a crust free wheat bread sandwhich (ham or turkey with 1 slice american cheese and just a touch of mayo, may sound weird but it's delicious lol or a PbJ because of the protein factor).

I try to keep it high protein (greek yogart and soy are both excellent candidates) and low fat, low sugar, low carbs. I find if I eat carbs I just want to crash.

Unfortunately I view eating as part of the "discipline" of playing; I try to enjoy myself/indulge in *real* food either after a session or on an off day.

I bought a juicer-- and am trying to mainly make veggie juices since fruit is high in sugar (although a berry smoothie is my absolute fav). I made gazpacho with it that was pretty yummy (thickened the juice by blending it with avocado) and then diced up a ton of raw veggies for it. I also like carrot juice, and am slowly working kale in to be healthier. Any one else a juicer?

ohhhhh. I should ask my friend David to come show you some juicer secrets. That is all he eats. Juice and nuts. literally. lol. I have been meaning to get out to Vegas since January because I was going to spend a month with him learning how to do it. But the schedules just never matched up.

What kind of juicer did you get? I was told by a nutritionist to get a dual motor one? But those are much more mess and clean up...so I was just going to get a single motor one...

Spoiler:
But I spent $100 on shoes today, so there goes the savings lol

for live play i'm digging carrot sticks and rice cakes. also thin mints, but those won't necessarily help you fit into jeans if you eat too many.
