With thanks to Nolan Dalla and wsop.com, Event #8 - $1,000 NLH had 172 women entrants. That was 4.1% of the field. I am surprised by how low this number is. I would have expected somewhere around 6-7%.

Looking around the day 1a field, i actually was surprised at how few women I saw. I also would have expected a lower buy-in event to to have a higher female participation.

Any stats on how many of those 172 cashed? I know of 4 for sure (Tremblay, Liebert, Ana Marquez, and myself, lol) but not sure how many others. I didn't see many on day 2 at ALL. I will be interested in the other 1k events numbers, too, especially the one between the Ladies' event and the ME.

I don't have any data for how many women cashed in the event, but congrats to you!

I'm pretty sure the $1k event between the Ladies Event and the Main Event is going to show an increase in % participation (relative to Event #8 field) based on what we saw last year.

From Nolan Dalla's latest wsop.com update (through Event #16):

The streak of male WSOP gold bracelet winners has now reached 177 consecutive events. Aside from the annual Ladies Championship, the last female player to win a WSOP tournament open to both sexes was Vanessa Selbst, in 2008. The longest “cold” streak for female players occurred between years 1982 and 1996, when 221 consecutive open events passed without a female champion.

The latest updates have not included the number of women entrants, but Nolan has assured me that they are compiling that data. I'll update the thread when that information becomes available.

I also found the second sentence interesting - "Aside from the annual Ladies Championship . . ." - because the wording implies that the Ladies Championship is open to both sexes. (But that's a different topic . . .)

Played a bunch with Stephanie Nguyen on day 2 of the LHE6max, with 12 left she is a very legit sweat. She played really aggressive and was pretty good.

My first table in the 1k on sunday 4 of my 5 opponents were women. Even more amazing, the first hand there was a prefop all-in between 2 of the women. Mind blown.

Kim Nguyen is currently the chip leader 3-handed in Event #19 $2,500 Limit Holdem 6-Handed.

(In yesterday's coverage, they had her listed as Stephanie Nguyen.)

props to her opponent for keeping his composure and focus despite the wild rail. He's running good rignt now too.

Kim 1mm
Daren 1.65mm

i heard on the audio feed the server cut off the rail. haha

also i would be pretty annoyed if i was HU for a bracelet and i had an average-ish dealer in the box. This dealer is hard to watch.

With thanks to Nolan Dalla and wsop.com:

Event #20 - $1,000 No-Limit Holdem had 149 women entrants (4.7%).

In addition, the average age for all players in this tournament was 36.9 years. However, the average age of the women entrants was 41.6 years.

Women's participation in Event #20 is somewhat comparable to Event #8 - $1,000 NLH, where there were 172 women entrants (4.1%).

Will be interested to see the overall ROI of women vs. the ROI of men in the 2011 WSOP. I wonder if such statistics will be available from Nolan Dalla. I would imagine women would have a higher ROI, but that's just a guess.

Both of these events also had a woman make the FT. not that there's any sort of recognizable correlation, but I just found it interesting. lol

Actually, It seems like there have been several more females at FTs (or running really deep) this year, though that could just be a perception error on my part.

Shamus recalls 6 women who made FTs in 2010 WSOP events and 2 women who made FTs in 2009 WSOP events (see post #21 ITT).

I think so far this year there have been 4 - Odette Tremblay (Event #8), Diana Allen (Event #20), Maria Ho (2nd in Event #4), and Kim Nguyen (2nd in Event #19).

Couple of interesting things - In prior years, the women who went deep were more well known professional players. This year, there are more "new" names in the mix. Although a short sample size (and the unknown of what's going to happen during the remainder of the series), the numbers seem to be trending well for FT appearances . . . Now will someone go win a bracelet???
