I think you've brought up a good point. Personally, I haven't seen any advertising for women. :O

More often than not it is an all male table if not clearly dominated room what are the sex percentages of your locale table or group. Funny as it is most of the time it's just 1 female per locale meaning the less who play the more equal our ratio.

i think It's like 1 female for 3-4 tables if not worse.

1/27 - 1/36 double 6's boxcars or so.

Plus chance they are rediculously good looking, I need to find a hobby that isn't so gay literally. The female dealer doesn't count and the flirty waitress is nice to everyone.

Basically I'm saying we need a female poker boom.

Agree? so how do we campaign this.

I saw this last post about "Women at the table", and I really don't think it's worded in a way to lead to constructive commentary.

However, I think the idea of making more women want to play poker is a fairly germane one to the forum.

So I went through all the threads since the inception of this forum to find one on topic to merge it with to reopen the conversation in a more constructive manner, but this is actually the closest I could find.

If someone wants to start a thread on the subject in a manner that would be more condusive to good conversation/suggestions, go for it. Otherwise it can be discussed along with advertising in this thread. Thx.

Advertisers should market to the demographic(s) they believe will be most profitable. They shouldn't push for equality or try to create diversity, if it's not profitable to do so. Their only concern should be the success of their business.

Marketing101 = it's much easier to sell to those who already are already consuming the product(ie. already play poker), than to sell to those who need to be educated on why they need the product(ie. people who have never played poker on why they should start playing and start investing their money in it).

So you market to men who already play the game... the marketing cost per new signup is much less if they market to men than to women.

There is a huge target audience in women players but most sites have males doing the creative work/marketing and like it or not they just don't see things the same way as a woman art director would. Other than the few women's forums and stars I've never seen a poker advertisement geared to women. Take the 888 webcam commercial. (don't get me wrong I think the site is great) But I'm never going to be playing poker on webcam by the pool in my bathing suite or with my friend behind me in the getting ready to go out.

And no having women pros in their commercials doesn't attract other women to play. Mostly because the girls in the commercial are normally models first than poker players. I think that the other sites could really learn a lot about marketing to women from stars, the Pokerstars women's twitter, webpage, facebook, blog and real pros.

This is the only designated 'poker for women' area on the net I know of. (There could be more I don't venture outside 2p2 much) I know this discussion is about what the sites should do but what about what you can do for yourselves? (yeah cheesy) How about a TWSS podcast? Sponsorship and interest from big name female players should be a cinch.

That's an interesting idea. If I knew anything about podcasting I'd be seriously intrigued. I do love to talk.

It would be fairly straight forward I'd imagine. You could record your conversations using Skype and some free call recording software. I think proper editing software can be quite expensive though but sponsorship could pay for it.

There's a definite gap in the market imo.

There are other outlets that discuss women and poker outside of 2+2.
But yes, you are correct there is no 2+2 podcast for TWSS.
If you do some research you will see many women involved in various writing and radio/podcast projects.
Some of them are even itt.
Maybe even mods

It's difficult.

The % a male will play poker vs. the % a female will is much larger, so targeting women yields weaker results.

Advertising on ESPN associates poker as a sport, and already has a market who have viewed the WSOP. Women like sports, and so this will help over time if we convince them that it is.

A woman who is supported by her man often spends funds on items to make her and the home more beautiful, in turn pleasing him, so marketing those items to women is profitable. A man might not like his woman using funds on a site.

Men might have more of the competitive ego to win, survive, or continue depositing, generating more rake whereas a woman might lose her initial deposit and decide not to drink another 10 beers to find out who'd win in a long distance piss rematc.

In short, it'd be nice to bring more women into poker, but I think it would need to work on a limited budget. An idea that comes to mind for hotel casinos is that they can attract women to poker rooms to provide them entertainment while their partners are action the floor.

Why not start with a TWSS segment on the 2plus2 pokercast?

Interesting idea, although to their credit, Mike and Adam always bring up when women are doing well in tournaments throughout the year, and have congratulated women pros when they are doing particularly well (like Selbst and Talon). That said, there really just is a huge gap between the number of women and men players. I mean, I doubt anyone has any hard numbers, but percentage wise, does anyone think women make up even 5% of the poker player base?

I think the regular public would have an idea that women don't play much, or do well, if all they saw was the WSOP coverage, since the only time a woman FTed the ME was back in 80 something. Anyone who watches almost all poker broadcasts would have a more accurate opinion of women in tournament poker, IMO.

I know in my bar league, men seem to far outstrip the women.

i would love to see more women playing poker, there are only 2 in our local league out of 150! but we fight for equality and yet u are asking for special tournies etc, there are leagues, tournies etc for just women, but just imagine if they had men only leagues and tournies we would create!! i for one dont wont to be treated differently or hav special leagues, it makes me feel like im not good enough to play against men! i will use everything i can at a poker table to get an advantage, and i do play on being a woman but if men want to fall for that its not my fault lol. If women want to play they will i dont want special treatment!
