Hi,

I would like to thank Bernard for his time, coaching was worth every cent. Every piece of information was very clear, he helped me exactly what I needed with. He is also very nice and friendly person. I would recommend his service to everyone who wants to improve his sng/hu game.

I have been coached for 7 hours yet by bernard. He arms you with very useful documents that help you to strongly improve your preflop game. They come along with very detailed and easy explanations.

He is super strong when it comes to narrowing ranges, not only once he told me the exact hand that my opponent was holding when we reviewed my hand histories. I learned a lot about maxEV plays that I wouldn't have considered before. Additionally, I was really impressed how he underlines every decision with mathematic evidence.
One great thing about bernard is that he always takes time to make sure any questions are solved. Would recommend to everyone.

Brand new interview with Bernard. Here he goes into hand reading, and picking up on patterns, indicative of his style of play.

Generalizations, Patterns, and Hand Reading with Benard "bernardc" Cappel

...“There is no wisdom without generalizations. generalizations are what in allow us to make sense of the world. If one cannot generalize, one cannot see patterns, and therefore one cannot make sense of reality. “seat belts save lives” is a generalization. Now, everyone knows that sometimes seatbelts seat belts actually cause the death of the driver or passenger. Does that invalidate the generalization? Of course not. The existence of exceptions does not invalidate a generalization.”...

BernardC greatly improved my game. He provided lots of his own HH's, charts from Icmizer, great videos and perfect feedback whenever I needed. Bellow you can see my graphs after and before coaching (its reversed, the first line is my results after coaching with Bernard, obviously). Altough before the coaching I run fairly bad, I think I was definitely not a winning player pre-rb. Now I am feeling confident with every spot and playing my best game. Thanks to Bernard my redline skyrocketed by 3-4% and that is A LOT of money in longterm.

Re: Bernardc: Private Coaching for HYPERS,TURBOS & REG SPEED: Heads-up, 6, 9, 18-man

I had to take over a year off after black friday and was struggling to breakeven at the tables after getting back to the grind last year. I bought the $1500 package from Bernard in May and instantly started playing better. Bernard does a great job of explaining things, has tons of extra charts and documents for you to keep and is a pleasure to work with. I took another session from him today as a refresher and picked up more great information. I made it to elite with some nice table profits this year with his help. You can also see my brag below (9 man turbo any stakes).

I took a coaching package with Bernard for HUSNGs and would like to recommend him to anyone who wants to improve their game.

He has been a pleasure to work with - always very approachable and professional; I really feel like I got a lot of value from his coaching. I found Bernard to be very generous with his time and it is obvious that he genuinely wants his students to improve.

Trust me, Bernard REALLY knows his stuff, both with the maths side of the game and with reading your opponents. It sounds like a cliché but in my case it is true - my only regret about taking out a coaching package with Bernard is that I did not do it sooner.

re: Bernardc: Private Hyper & Turbo Coaching, All Sng Games...Read My Poker Playing Updates Here!

January month end recap for Bernard

"My plan to start the year was to go for supernova elite with a nice pre rakeback proft. I finished January with a healthy 100k vpp and over $14k prerakeback profits. I'm happy with my results so far, but I know variance is always around the corner.

I very rarely look at my redline but for updates Ill include it. I believe short term it doesn’t say much about your skills. Sometimes you're running into coolers all the time and your EV line looks fine, but you lose money. It also may be possible you are card dead, so EV line looks fine, but you lose money. EV is like winnings, generally the best players have the highest Ev, and win the most money. By year's end, everybody gets close to the same amount of luck, good or bad. My advice is don't look at the EV too much, instead just work hard on getting better, especially when you are in a downswing. Ev lines on Tracker and Manager are not derived from an exact science and are not precise, so don't worry about them."

Good Luck,

Bernard

re: Bernardc: Now Coaching Spin and Goes, 6max Hypers, HeadsUp, and Hand Reading

A lot of players have questions about the topics variance, ev, bankroll management and roi. That's the reason for this post!

Variance
There is a lot of variance in the 6max hypers, but the better you play the chance of a big downswing decreases. I didn’t face any big downswing playing 200s and lower stakes. Playing 500s, sometimes I would lose 20 buyins, or $10,000 then have to move down. Most of the regs who experience big downswings are the players that don’t or barely beat the games pre rake back, this combined with certain factors lead to huge downswings. Things like playing stakes they can’t beat, playing too many tables, or tilt issues will all exasperate a downswing. On top of that not studying their play when in a losing streak is a recipe for doom. A lot of the players I just described instead rationalize their losing by saying, "It is just the variance but almost all the my bad streaks are for the biggest part because I didn’t play my best games." Who am I to correct them?

EV
I heard from several players that the ev in Pokertracker and Holdem manager isn’t accurate. I don’t spend much time looking at my ev or my winnings. I rather spend the time to improve my game instead of looking if I was lucky or not. Not to mention, for me, bad luck is no solace when I'm losing money. My opinion, EV is just a bit more accurate compared to your winnings because sometimes you run into AA or KK all day when you have AK. Your EV is still fine but you lose a lot of money. So what's the point of dwelling on it?

Bankroll management
100 buyins for a certain stake is fine, just plan to move down in stakes if you lose 30 buyins. Moving down shouldn't make you feel badly, it is an essential part of good money management. Just play the stakes you beat. If you feel comfortable you can beat a certain stake, but run terrible and have to drop down, the lower stakes will seem easy to you, a great way to regain your confidence!

Achieveable Roi
My roi is 2.2% with an average buyin around 80 dollars. Broken down, my pre-rake back roi is 2.5% at the $60-$200's, and I'm losing at the $300-$500 stakes in less than a 1,000 game sample. I think there is room to increase my roi. I know when I'm not playing optimal, usually when I add too many tables, and I know this will affect my overall roi. But while playing hypers, sometimes I just want to bang out a block of vpp's, usually before a holiday. If I had to guess as to a maximum roi in the $60's and $100's one can attain while playing close to perfect, and using great game selection while limiting the amount of tables to 6-8, I think over 4% should be possible.

February Month End Recap

"It was not a great month, but I am happy with it. After last month I knew I would have a bit of a cool down, so to escape with breakeven prerakeback is find by me. Not too much volume in the shortened month, mostly because I took a week off to go skiing in Austria, and I have been spending a lot of time working in the upcoming class, which I am really excited for, it should be great!

Next month I am back to the grind, and making sure I atay on SNE pace."

Good Luck,

Bernard

Is there any option for group coaching? Are there any downsides to group coaching sessions versus 1 on 1?

Just finished my last session with Bernard a few weeks ago. Have to say that it was money very well spent. It really is a bargain when you think about how much great info Bernard is offering. It isn't difficult to make that back if you listen to what Bernard is telling you and study the charts. Big thanks to Bernard, has improved my game ten fold. Definitely recommend.

would anyone be comfortable saying how much their income or hourly after coaching increased? Like, how many hours would a person have to play before they recouped their investment?

Hey winnercircle,

with 1 on 1 coaching it is possible to review the handhistories of the student and see what mistakes he is making. That's a big advantage on 1 on 1 coaching. An advantage of grouplessons is that I select the hands. In my opinion these hands are all interesting, so I don't lose time in going over hands that are less interesting compared to the hands from the grouplessons.

So you say you do ALL SnGs and formats. Never seen you play Omaha H/L 6-max hyper or 18-man turbo games on stars. You do coaching for those?

Also, do you claim an hourly poker-winnings rate of > $130/hr (multi-tabling however many you usually do) from SnGs?

re: Bernardc: Now Coaching Spin and Goes, 6max Hypers, HeadsUp, and Hand Reading

hey,

I don't play those 18men that much anymore and neither do i play omaha h/l. I have coached 18men players in the past but i never coached any other games as no limit holdem. i have no idea what my winrate is for the different games and i don't think it is over 130/hr but not sure how much it is. The most important for me is that i enjoy the games i play and have enough earnings to do the things that i want to do besides playing poker

re: Bernardc: Now Coaching Spin and Goes, 6max Hypers, HeadsUp, and Hand Reading

hey!

yesterday i finished my last lesson with bernard.
what can i say?
first of all he is a very nice person, always calm down, relaxed and not in a hurry when it comes to coaching. he is also very generous in all aspects of coaching so you will everytime have the feeling, that you invest your money pretty well.
during the coaching, bernard was competent and focused all the time, could answer every single question on the fly, emphasize it with charts, icmizer, his great understanding of the math of poker and provided different approaches to play a hand according to villain, board texture, stack dynamimcs and so on.
on top of this, bernard gives you a bunch of strategy papers, HH's, opening ranges and much other files you can work with and what gives you a solid basis to start from or gives you new input.
only the files, together with the HH's, are worth a bunch of dollars.
from my point of view i can say that i learned a lot of stuff, i am more confident with my game and esp. my postflop play is much better and at least i think, that i was not that bad when i started with bernard :-).
i will def. work again with bernard when i managed to move up one or two stakes more in the 6 max hypers.
atm i play the 15's and some 30's although i have not much time to play but that will change in 2 month.
so, thx for coaching!

re: Bernardc: Now Coaching Spin and Goes, 6max Hypers, HeadsUp, and Hand Reading

Hey,

I haven´t been playing much lately. In case someone wonders what i am doing, I am in France enjoying a 2 month vacation. Of that 2 months, i have 2 weeks left and afterwards i go to Curacao and the V.S. for almost a month. During the vacation i thought a lot about poker and the coaching lessons also continued so it wasn´t only `chilling at the beach`.

On skype and by email i received a lot of questions about: What is the pokergame where you can win the most money? It is one of the toughest questions to answer because it depends on so many factors.

What stakes do you play and how many hours do you spend playing? How well do you multitable? Could you make supernova or supernova elite with the stakes you are beating? What is the strongest part of your game, preflop or postflop? Can you handle big swings moneywise? Do you tilt a lot? All those things are important to decide what to do!

I put my thoughts about some different games on Pokerstars in order.

Hu turbo
reasons not to play those games:
There isn't much action vs randoms, games take a long time so you earn less vpps
reasons to play: you can exploit your postflop edge, less variance

Hu hyper
reasons not to play those games:
the cartels and long waiting lines if you want to play randoms, a lot of variance, hard to exploit postflop edge
reasons to play: Games go really fast so you make much more vpps compared to turbo's, you can play a lot of players in a short amount of time, so if you have the edge you can possibly win a lot of money, you can play those games if you have only 10 min time left, you are playing a lot of hands in a short time so it is less boring compared to tourneys for example.

6m hyper
reasons not to play:
A lot of variance, harder to exploit your postflop edge, a lot regs these days and a lot of players work harder on their game because they need to do that, otherwise they can't beat the games anymore.
reasons to play those games:
You can earn a lot of vpps, the games are fairly easy to beat if your pushing and calling ranges are good, so even weak postflop players can beat those games.

6m turbo
reasons not to play those games:
Much less action at the higher stakes compared to the 6m hypers, the games take more time so could be more boring if you are used to a lot of action, you earn less vpp in the same amount of time compared to the 6m hypers
reasons to play those games:
easier to exploit your postflop edge, less variance, less chance you tilt also because there is a smaller chance you lose a lot of money in short time.

I hope this information helps someone with his decision to chose the game that fits him or her the most.

Good luck at the tables
