But the reason you find a lot of players don't have this plan, is because most people get into poker to make a ton of money, not to make solid five or low six figures. Many players are also young. It can take awhile to find yourself, perspective is important.

And there are players that have really nice ideas for whenever they get out of poker. Those ideas are not always shared with every player though, as it may not feel too baller to talk about a modest business with a guy who is making six figures in poker today.
Nice points man, gives an old man some young ninja grinder perspective to ponder over!! Poker for me is my retirement plan C.

The big money can be great, but sacrificing 8 hours a day of fun is a terrible cost to achieve big money.

It's one thing to work hard at something you don't love to earn your living, but once you have a living, I don't think chasing the big money with jobs you hate is the best option.
I wasn't particularly suggesting that players go out and start working in these businesses full time... as obv that would be horrendous but would make a lol documentary!!

The thread is titled backup plan/long term plan, and i guess thats where my post was coming from... its truly not hard to buy a "modest freehold/leasehold business" as a backup plan... retain the staff already running the joint and invest very little time thereafter if your intelligent enough. But i think you need to have been involved in a "life grind" for a prolonged period of time say like 12months no income with bills to pay... or 3 years working on small money being managed by pipsqueaks and know your better than that to appreciate the freedom a small modest business can give you if **** goes to pot.

I still believe in the underlying principle of my argument (which i not worded very well last night) is basically: Always have a clear exit strategy and plan B in life (applies to anything, poker, business, large capital investments, etc). Don't hang around flogging a dead horse and then try to exit when it becomes a bumfight to withdraw your "Total Time ROI"... be a boring trailblazer that's okay man... think about your potential "Lifetime Hourly" and whats next for where you are in life.

If your going to post next, don't ruin my gold, it could save someones life.

I disagree that a poker player needs a backup plan while they are still grinding. Most players which could be called professional would have enough money saved to last several years after they stop playing in which they can start another buisness venture/college/job.
