Why even bother with Spins?

If it takes as long to get profitable at spins as it takes for other games why even bother?

Let's say you have 5% ROI the best you can hope to make assuming your perfect is 120k a year playing $100 spins.

I'm pretty sure every other game you can still make double or triple that if you are one of the best.

The work required to be the best is probably about the same maybe slightly less time and sample size so why even bother trying.?

Share your reasons.

not sure what makes you think 120k is the max you can make at 100s?

Re: Why even bother with Spins?

Probably it's because it is easier to learn and progress than most of the games out there.

As an illustration, you almost never have a 3b NAI bluff range when you are headsup (assuming 2handed game started around 13-15 bb). Imagine how much simplification that puts in the game compared to 100 bb deep HU or PLO cash game.

If you watch a couple of videos of cash games at any format, you will instantly realize that they are talking about concepts that HUSNG players rarely think if never. Converse is also true, HUSNG players master some concepts that other players don't have much clue about, but it's easier and faster to learn.

Furthermore, if you want to play at the highest level you don't need to battle against divisions to share the pool of recreational players.

Re: Why even bother with Spins?

Why even play poker when you can make 100 billion+ owning a retail company?

In all seriousness, 1) You can make more than 120k 2) Your reasoning for not playing spins only applies to a very tiny % of winners 3) realistically you want to look at what a reasonably good winner can make over 6, 12, 24, 72 months and compare that to other games.

Example, the biggest MTT win is usually one drop, right? So the top person makes 10+ million dollars each year in MTTs. By that logic you'd just go play MTTs and never consider cash, sngs, etc. What you want to look at is the likely profit for you, not what the very best minuscule players are making.

So for a guy crushing 1k-5k SNG or 25-50 cash, $100 Spins might not make a lot of sense. $500 spins might, or if they had higher stakes they might. But it's really an issue of the stakes just not going up as high there for those guys. That isn't likely relevant to you though.

Re: Why even bother with Spins?

Very Interesting arguments so far all valid points.

@ChicagoRY and gdaviezz I find it really hard to believe more than 120k a year is possible. given the variance in this game and the need to stay focused. I think anyone multitabling more that 3 $100 spins at a time is not going to run 5% ROI

So even at 3000 tournaments a month the math just doesn't add up but I guess with rake back or rewards you might get as high at 150k

If I am wrong please enlighten me because I love the format but I just don't see the juice being worth the squeeze vs working my ass off at 6max where I know guys making 50 to 60k a month.

I just don't like bum hunting

I play spins because I dig variance but don't have time for MTTs.

Re: Why even bother with Spins?

Before the tracking sites went down there were people doing well over that. I don't hunt for people's profit totals and it'd be hard to truly verify these days, but there are no signs that the high end has changed significantly. Like HUSNGs historically, there are likely plenty that did well one year then a good amount worse the next year, but also consistent guys too.

Who is making 50-60k a month at 100NL though (or say $100 MTTs)? We're talking roughly equivalent stakes here, so if you're saying 500NL or 1k NL or something, 1) it's a much higher buyin/risk and 2) it's a much higher skilled playerbase.
