alright hey guys, ive been thinking for almost 2 weeks now on what great topic I could come up with to make for my pooh-bah post. I thought on alot of different concepts for HU SNG but nothing I felt could really turn into a ground breaking post or shed some vast amount of light on that can't be covered in general strat thread here.

So then it hit me, there are so many things about this game that are non-technical that we allll struggle with that nobody discusses. So I said OK, i'll make a "HU SNG & Life" thread, and talk about balancing your life, how to work out a good lifestyle to keep yourself happy and your game sharp, etc., etc., and impart wisdom based on all the mistakes i've made in these areas. I got about 2 paragraphs in and didnt know what else I could write.

So here I am, in the well, I know i'm not the #1 choice for well-dwellers, but I hope I can do a good job, and i'll try to answer every question you guys ask as in depth as I can. Feel free to ask me any strat questions, lifestyle questions, or anything in general about me, you, or the game of poker & HU SNG, and i'll do my best, Hope you all enjoy,

-Primo

First. Woo-hoo!

Any tips on grinding a lot of hours playing at least B game? I can't do more than a few hours of husng's.

Also, I tend to stop playing when I'm up a few buyins. I know this is bad, any outlook on that that may help me change my thinking?

Just takes breaks, if im going to play alot of hours, I try to not play longer than 2 hours at a time without taking like a 5-30 minute break, it can be as short as getting a glass of water and stepping outside for a breath of fresh air, to let your head refocus and then back to the grind, or it can be a walk outside + lunch, chill out and watch TV or read a magazine, whatever works for you

I mean it's just gathering a fundamental understanding of the game really, we all have that tendency when we're +$300 on the day say "OoO, if I just made $300 every day i'd be balllinnnnn" , but we know if we have a 10% ROI, that REALLY means we need to play 30 games per day at $100s to get what we want, so rather than having a losing day and trying to grind out 80 games to get +$300, focus on whats important, and just getting in those 30 games each day to get what you want. But again, dont ever force this, if your feeling and playing GREAT one day, go ahead and play 50 games, and the next day, if you start out -2 BI and played terrible, just take a long break or stop for the day, the goal is to put in as much quality volume as you can, forcing poor volume will never be what you wanna do

+1 to what DMD asked about how to grind a lot of hours and how to not quit when you are up a few buyins

Favorite posts on 2p2 that improved your game or made you look at the game from another perspective

Favorite poster who you used to search his posts to try to break into his head and his thought process (if any)?

Thoughts on the future (short and long time) of husngs and poker in general?

Bonus: Can i still send you my HH for review? (been busy )

Thanks for this well!

Nah, I don't think so, me and the gf (wife now) are pretty happy, and she's just going through the process of getting her green card / whatever else, so I think we'll be buying a house here in the near future so I don't we'll move back over seas permanently

Congrats on getting married! That is very cool. How did you get into HeadsUp, and do you still regularly play any other forms of poker?

I can't think of any single post that really improved me a ton, but i've always respect Phil Galfond (Jman28 on 2p2, OMGClayAiken on FTP and MrSweets28 on Stars), and his Well was a really great read with alot of wisdom in there ( http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/19...isisted-88525/ )

Favorite poster who you used to search his posts to try to break into his head and his thought process (if any)?

When I was coming up there wern't any stand out posters that I remember at the time, I mean myself, hokie, ChiRy, skilled (pushing22), etc., where all pretty new to 2p2 at the same time, and other than that for HU SNG there was just Indy and Cwar ;p (oh how the times have changed). But if I had to pick a favorite poster... i'd prolly pick P-bator... <3 that crazy bear, and I reccomend him 4 modzzzz

Thoughts on the future (short and long time) of husngs and poker in general?

They are def. getting significantly tougher, but I have no fear about them beating unbeatable or anything, HU SNGs leave alot of room for ego's, and big winners from other games wanting to be able to 'conquer' people in them, or whatever, I have no fear for the future of HU SNG or Poker in general

Bonus: Can i still send you my HH for review? (been busy )

Most def., u did ur part, i'll do mine whenever u want it, so don't sweat it

Thanks for this well!

How did you learn the things you didn't know that you didn't know? Videos, talking to guys better than you or just through grinding and reviewing hands?

Also if you don't mind what were some of these things?

Also congrats on the marriage.

nah, I lived in Budapest, Hungary from 2007-2008, Vegas in the summer of 2008, Montpellier, France from the end of summer 08 to like... November 08, then St-Louis, France until December/Jan 08/09, and now currently reside in New Hampshire, USA and plan on buying a house here relatively soon (might be buying one my uncle just built right when I get back from vegas, but not sure yet ;p)

I don't know really how I got into heads up, there were 2 diff. times, the first was when I was 16-ish I ended up playing a TONNN of $200 and $500 HU SNGs vs JDredd and -BBJ- and -BBJ- like decimated my roll back then ;p

The second, was when I was randomly surfing the net at my old job in college and found indy's post bragging about him coaching/staking some losing player and turning him into a winner, I had NO clue what 2p2 was at this point, but I decided to make an account and msg him 'if he did this w/many people', mainly as a joke, well indy's ego didnt allow for jokes, and he snap took me under his wing and tossed me some $$$ to start staking me in HU SNG (I had won the $22 HU MTT a bunch of times before this, but had never played HU SNG really)

So anyways, that introduced me to HU SNG, he paid to get me coaching from cwar at the end of every successful stake, and it introduced me to 2p2 and prolly had alot to do w/defining who I am today (or where I am in this game at least)

As for other forms of poker, I REALLY enjoy live MTTs, and hope to play a ton more of them in the future, I dont really play much other than HU SNG besides hyper turbo 6mans on Stars (satts only) , but I plan on learning alot from SSS / NemoInDenial / and JSnipes as far as HU Cash goes this summer, and would like to really give that a go in the coming year

Since you started playing for a living, what was the single biggest change that you have made to improve your game? By this I'm including both leaks in-game as well as aspects outside the game like bankroll management, tilt control, balancing your life, etc.?

The first is a really interesting question, and tbh im not sure when I picked up the knowledge, alot of it came from talking w/cwar last summer in vegas, and doing exercises in the kitchen of the apartment I had rented there, that made me much more aware of meta, adaptions, and board texture. The biggest thing I learned there was paying much more attention to board texture and when you can ck/raise, etc., etc. , which was very basic stuff that I had just never paid enough attention to previously.

This along with talking regularly with some guys who have VERY different outlooks on the game (myself, hokie, chiry ... then Dibasio, Croix, Nofear, and Sifosis), I talked to all of them on a very very regular basis in the fall after I left vegas, and this really solidified alot of the stuff I had begun to look at before, and seeing so many different views on similar concepts got me into looking at the WHY of alot of different spots, and opened me up to trying to solve some parts of HU SNG I thought could be solved (like simple reshoving equations at <30bb, etc., etc.)

and thanks for the congrats

tbh going full time really didnt do much except give me the opportunity to magnify some really bad habits ;p, like playing WAYY too much when playing marginally, etc., it was when I first dating / living with my gf (now wife) that I really changed some stuff around, i'd say order of importance was basically:

Balancing my life: this is really important when you have somebody else you actually care about and your actions effect, before when I wasn't full time, my ex-gf would be over, but if I was having a losing night I would just grind through being MISERABLE to be around and playing as late as 4am, etc.

but now when I was full time, I would try to structure my life better, currently I wake up at like 10am, eat breakfast/whatever, and play from like 10:30 or 11 until 3 or 4 pm, and then try to do something with her for the evening. The same thing happened when I had first gone full time, I could try to make sure I was done playing by 8pm so I could spend my nights with her, and I knew even if I had had a bad day, I could sleep it off and wake up tomorrow more refreshed, and still would have the whole day to play

Bankroll Management: This has always been important, and I guess I kind of undervalued it, but living with guys like hokie and cwar (HUGEEE BR nits) and talking to people like Croix / M@D, who had both played $100s at a time with like 300k bankrolls, just made me realized how much easier / less stress this kind of situation would put you in. Yes I realize how important it is to maximize the value you can get, but I also like to enjoy my life, and hate having !)$@!n 10 BI downswings that are like 1/3 of my entire BR, it's just unbearable at times, and magnifies 100x the depression / euphoria cycles you experience

Tilt Control: I still haven't mastered this, and it always hurts me, I allow myself to have days like my -14k, -8k day, etc., where other people will never get to that point at the same stakes as me, because they dont tilt as hard, and they are willing to stop when they are down much sooner than I am, this is something I work on every day though, and know is a big weakness of mine

I wishhhh I had them... like I said... I was 16... so it was my mom or dad who was playing him, not me, on an oldddd olddd account, so I doubt I could dig them up even if I wanted to

haha, tbh I had ALOT to say that night we just played recently, but I can't remember any of it now, and unfortunately my computer has been @!)+*$!@n ******ed lately, and crashes regularly (just shuts off out of no where), and this causes me to lose all my notes and databases on a daily basis, so I can't comment too much on anybody's games unless we've really played a ton, wish I could tho! lemme know if u got anything else, or dig up some HHs if you wanna discuss

Getting into the habit of calling too wide OOP, and not 3betting enough against people who MR a ton of their buttons

2, how did you wokr on your 20 - 30bb play, any good threads you remeber?

I don't really remember how it came about, I remember solving the equations that I based my HU SNG From Scratch: Advanced Concepts vid on with somebody, but up to that point I had never seen the information posted anywhere or discussed at all, so somebody did alot of that with me and I totally forget who (sorry u deserve some cred!!!), but since then i've talked this blind level over with a TON of different people and come along ways in my understanding of adaptions vs diff. player types / skill levels of players

3, hardest player you played?

Prolly BCM11 by a huge margin(not the first 18 games I played him a long time ago, but the 30 or 40 we played this winter), followed up by Adonis112

4, how many times you punched screen, broke mouse, hit wife etc etc.. due to tilt

Never, the worst I ever do is throw my mouse to the other end of my mouse pad (where it like flips upside down), or kinda bang my desk w/my fist, but both are pretty mild, im not like liv who I heard threw his monitor or PC out like a 30th story window or something (not sure if this is true or not, but I heard it from a decent source ;p)

5, hardest person you played in husngs

(see #3)

6, ever 7bet bluffed someone?

Hrmmm, actually im almost positive I have a few times ;p, but probably before I was even good at HU SNGs, I wish I had some recent HHs that demonstrate this ;p

7, biggest hand that sticks in your memory wether biggest pot lost/won, most you learned cause of it etc...

Only big hand I remember often is being in 14/17 where 16 WSOP ME packages go, everybody still having decent stacks, 17th place goes all in, I call OTB w/ AA, he has QQ and river 4 flushes me while I was in Budapest w/my whole family railing from their house and my gf behind me watching... I went out next hand cause I had like NO chips, it was super super super devastating, and I brushed it off really well actually, but that hand sticks out more than any other

8, scariest night of your life?

Hrmm, I have NO clue on this one, I guess my memory isnt that good, but I guess any time I have a HUGE DS is super scary for me in terms of my 'poker life', like in December I had a -14k day... after getting scammed my whole roll in Oct, making 35k in November, and then BOOm, a -14k day, it was a SUPERRRRRRRRR long day of me playing a TONN of games, and just brought back all the memories of all of the times ive had huge defeats cause of similar stuff in my poker rolls before I was ever serious, and just always this terror that im falling back into my 'old poker ways' or aren't really good enough or controlled enough to make it as a career

9, happiest moment of your life? (and please dont say getting married or will be pettintion to get **** locked straight away)

hahaha, this COULD potentially be tonight, why I cannot tell you yet... but details potentially to come . If it's not tonight, then i'll try to think up a good one to tell you
