Hello guys,
I'm currently playing 15$ hyper on PS and I have been swinging a lot recently. I'm staked so there's some burden off my shoulders, but playing 1 month and loosing in the end just sucks really bad. I'm around 35 buy-ins below EV at 15s and it seems virtually impossible for me to put in a winning day and the frustration seems to be building up. I have reviewed hands, sweated with people who play higher than me and they said I play well and that it's bad run and a combination of bad card distribution that will eventually change. It's hard to describe it, but whatever I do I run into better hands or loose those 60/40 spots.

But here's the question that I'm interested in... What do you guys consider normal swings ? How do you coop with the variance in these hypers ? Do you just tell yourself "It will change" and as roll keeps getting smaller do you move down often ? What's the biggest swing you ever had and worst loosing day you had ?

To me, it seems like -20bi days can happen quite often. Just a few days ago I was 10k under cEV and lost around 400$ that day. Today I lost another 340 again.

Variance is always there. Think about whether you played your hands optimal. If you are confident in what you do, there is nothing to worry about (considering that you don't have to worry about the money).

Today - all 15 - at some point it was more than 30 buyins - welcome to the Hyper party.....

I think it would be easier to handle, if you ever had such a day in green and you know that this also can happen, yet i honestly cant remember a day where i sucked out 30buyins in one session...

I'm in a similar boat right now (I play $15 hypers and am currently on a ~20BI downswing, but have had much worse). Do all the usual like have a break, remind yourself you'll have an upswing sometime etc. but the best advice I can give is just concentrate on playing well and improving your game. Variance in these is highly dependent on your winrate so the more leaks you plug the better. Plus being in the downswing mindset your game will suffer, even if you are aware of it and think you are avoiding the downswing mentality.

And read about other people's variance, it makes you feel better.

Are you positive that it is a downswing? If it is there is pretty much nothing you can do about it, since a downswing simply is part of the variance. All you can do is continue to play your best poker, because if the negative variance throws you off your best game and makes you play more badly and not your optimal game anymore, we are not talking about a down swing, but about a tilt induced loseing streak.

Anyways; there is a variance calculator on husng.com if you are interested in it.
