Exactly when you think you lack of abilities you lose confidence. This is where it goes wrong, you wont be able to play A-game because you don"t believe in your skill(ability).

Just to follow up...All I play now is heads up and I know how you feel. Crush the limit you're at only to find a glitch where it never goes right for a little while. It's amazing how depressed and insecure you can feel after a tiny downswing. I think we all dwell on our losses a lot. I try to immediately occupy my mind with something else. I play Diable 2 which is an aggressive game on the computer to completely clear my mind of poker so my brain can eliminate the ANTs (Automatic Negative Thoughts) Try to occupy your mind as quickly as possible when you start to feel negative after a loss. Thanks for your post!

Hi,

I guess I am at odds with everyone about this post. I mean its not a bad post, and I can see how it could help certain players. I would say its a good post because it discusses some important things. However, winning players are generally good players, whilst losing players are generally bad players. Variance aside, this is the norm, not the mathematical exception.

Sure, we have all been through the negative mindset of woe is me and yes, sure, we should never feel sorry for ourselves. However, we can only really try our best. If we fail we keep trying, if we give up trying , we ought to give up completely if we are serious about the game.

Obviously there are no guarantees, the games change, people adapt. But one thing has to be always true, The weakest players are going to be found at the lowest levels. The best players at the highest levels. If you start at the lowest levels and cannot get out of them after trying your best then give up. Just be honest with yourself. Give it a certain amount of time and if it doesn't happen, move on to other things in life.

Of course I am saying if you are serious about the game. Start at a level you are comfortable with and learn to play, but don't take it seriously if your results don't improve. That is the bottom line. Set a goal, make a cut off and stick to the plan. Don't be weak on yourself and think that you have to put up with variance for variance sake. Move down and move up when you need to achieve what you need to achieve. Don't just mindlessly keep playing like a zombie because you are stoic enough to weather the storm. I get the indifference to result thing, but please lets not accept it as being normal. If you play well you will run good.

The whole Full Tilt debacle has made me realise that you must always look out for your own interest. And the same goes for mathematical variance, be honest with yourself. Don't be numb to your results. Make sure you understand where your game is situated in relation to other players. It will change, but there will always be bad players, good players and some in between. If your are honest with your results you will eventual arrive somewhere.

Hey guys- shameless bump. I'm blogging now at www.kothpoker.com- we're a HU poker site in the midst of development and hoping to acquire a Nevada license for real money. After this did no good I moved to San Francisco to partner with a developing team for the project. Would love to hear what you think I should write about, and I hope you follow our progress.

gray text on white screen is death. also you could make your sentences shorter imo, it gives out a bit of a nerdy vibe

Changed to black text. Thanks for the comment, I noticed that but didn't think too much of it at the time. I'll work on the writing style haha, hopefully over time it will improve.
