lol mers

ChiRy I made this post because 1) it happens too often and 2) http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/18...-hand-1029899/ 3 different person each made the mistake, each time after I tried to make them realise their advice is impossible to apply.

That thread is so bad it's almost comical Alex.

Report any posts like that from now on. We'll just delete them, since they aren't going to be worth anything if the advice given is for reverse positions.

Unless there's a better solution, but I can't think of one off hand (chime in anyone).

What do people think about allowing a few more LC/NC threads that pop up all the time to develop?

Here's an example of one that would normally be insta locked: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/18...g-reg-1038558/

As you can see, discussion is mostly boring levels, but you can't deny how popular the thread has been (90+ replies, 3k+ views).

Lock this stuff up despite the popularity or keep it open?

maybe we should be thinking about how to have more strat threads as opposed to how to have less LC threads

Probably a good idea, given there's likely a lull due to black friday (less players playing regularly, less players getting into game situations to post regularly).

Any idea how to achieve this?

Here's a few ideas:

- Hand of the day

- Concept of the week

- Short video of the week (2p2 now has embedded video features, so if you can get it on youtube you can get it on 2p2, embedded in a thread)

Still, people seem to just love the "stupid" threads (in my view they are stupid, to each their own) over strategy threads at the moment. Well, I shouldn't say at the moment, anytime a NC thread slips by our moderator and reporter's eyes it grows at a much faster rate than even the best strat threads.

I've been halfheartedly trying to bring content up in strat threads by royal decree. It's no surprise there aren't many given the quality of typical responses these days:

Get serious about separating fluff threads from strat threads, I guess? Start deleting ****ty posts in strat threads?

Strictly moderated CotW threads could (hopefully) add some useful strat discussion. I'm talking about no trolling tolerated, infraction/temp ban for first offense strict moderation. Only way to stop it from devolving into pointless flaming imo.

I decided to get the ball rolling there. I changed it to "tip" in the hopes that people would more easily realize that it doesn't have to be a really deeply analyzed concept in order to create a thread (hopefully we'll get more people doing these).

Anybody is welcome to do the same thing, anytime. We'll throw them up in the FAQ link section as they come.

I'll do that with this one and see how it goes, good idea.

Why was this thread locked?
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/18...16/index6.html
I posted in it last night and my post was instantly deleted and the thread was locked.

The thread got boring and was basically being dedicated for a forum user who most people had no interest, your post was after a couple weeks of inactivity and was mostly jokes "when did you realize you could make a living from it" etc. It was pretty rare to have a junk thread like that not get deleted or locked in the first place. It had a good run.

You make some good points mers.

I just took a look in the mirror and noticed multiple grey hairs on my head. I think I'm getting too old for this trolling stuff.

My posting frequency will probably decrease in the coming days and weeks as I contemplate what to do with the rest of my life.

Wasn't the only post/suggestion, but a good example of what led to the tip of the week and now this.

Generally because of what's under the "posting guidelines" section of the original post in this thread.

Your thread isn't quite bbv or obnoxious or anything like that, but it's also not really strategy, thought out theory, etc.

Your thread is more of a general poll, we've had a lot of those and traditionally lock them as they are usually more of curiosity/LC than anything.

Let me know if you need any more clarification/answers, but a good rule of thumb is if it's not strategy related it's more likely to be locked and more likely should go in the regs/LC/beginners threads.

The reasoning for that is that we've had a lot of complaints at times as non strategy threads start to dominate the forums a bit, they also seem to take away a bit from the strategy threads if too many are left around. We try to maintain a balance and leave some of the LC stuff that is really popular (example, actual hu4rollz that happens, people really like that stuff).

You'll also notice a lot more of the LC or locked semi theory threads come from newer posters such as yourself.

I think that's normal, when I came onto this forum I made at least one super silly thread in hindsight. Your mind tends to wander a bit when you're new to the game, not really knowing all the time where your time is best spent, including thinking. I believe I made some thread about "what if your opponent folds for 10 hands, then on the 11th raises, then the flop comes xyz and he cbets." Something really irrelevant and non important to my growth (luckily a few people told me this at the time I think, and even then it stings a bit to get a thread locked, but it's for the best).

Lets hear other people's views too, because this is something very widespread, from low to high stakes and across all forums.

I think the better thing to do is to just offer a few decent words of encouragement when appropriate and let them have some cushion, it's never fun running like complete **** and people usually are just venting in the moment.

I'll happily delete more liberally with that type of stuff though, assuming everybody is on board with that. I'm not sure they are, hopefully people can weigh in here.
