When we are pot committed? Can anybody tell me something about that?

Basically, when you have a lot of chips in the middle already relative to the number of chips you still have, you'll be "pot committed" because you only need to have a small chance to win the hand in order for the call to be profitable in the long run.

for example:

let's say that you start off a hand with 500 chips.

after the turn, you've got 400 of your chips in the middle... so the pot has 800 chips.

on the river, your opponent puts you all in, and you have to decide whether or not you should call off the remaining 100 chips you have.

at that point, you'll either lose your remaining 100 chips if your opponent has the best hand, or you'll make a profit of 900 chips if you have the best hand.

[(chance of winning) x (profit)] - [(change of losing) x (loss)]

if that number is positive, you should make the call.

= (W% x 900) - (L% x 100)

so let's say that you think that there's an 80% chance that your opponent has the better hand and a 20% chance that he's bluffing and has the worse hand.

(.2 x 900) - (.8 x 100) = 180 - 80 = +100

if you think there's a 90% chance that you have the worst hand.. .then you'll be indifferent between calling and folding.

if you think there's a 95% chance you have the worst hand, you should fold.

I.e. it's just a layman phrase which basically means EV of folding < EV of calling in some arbitrary large pot situations.

In particular, e.g. if you are oop, it means the EV of check folding is worse than check calling, and often times this in turn means the EV of shoving yourself is highest and what you therefore should do.

Yeah what these guys said, you ever never really "pot committed", it all depends on what the most +ev move is at that point, but these guys have explained it pretty well.

Unless of course you're talking about smoking weed improving results...

Now is clear But in practice will be different to the application
