Man, I've just had a huge "aha" moment in my poker career, pretty obv tho. The thing is Im experiencing the longest and worst downer in my career, and had the idea of merging my entire database into pokertracker to get an idea of how bad Im running compared to games, and in 10 months I've only played 3.800 games, WTF????!!! How can I be complaining about variance when I didn't plugged 1/4 of the volume I should have

How many games do u guys put in on a year basis??

I'll play Chess and Go with anybody, I'm not amazing at either though. ~1500 chess and ~14kyu Go.

Actually, SC2 while I'm at it. 1500+ Diamond.

If this wasn't a poker forum, i'd play poker with somebody

EDIT: And yes, Connect Four is solved.

Ill crossbook starcraft games with you vs a member of this forum 100$ min

I'll give you knight odds in 3 0 blitz games for 5$ a game if you want NKaiser

Geeze you two, I dabble in the microstakes >.> I can't afford to bet a dime of my next month's groceries :P

too bad, I love playing chess for $

One of my fondest travel memories is losing all my cash to a drunk ukrainian hustler in a park in Kiev a few years ago

Sounds like an awesome life experience.

Would you be willing to play some straight chess without starving a student?
11-03-2010 , 01:22 AM
sure, want to play right now?
11-03-2010 , 01:24 AM
Sure! Notation or do you have a website in mind? I don't really trust others with notation to be honest. Too many hours lost to a typo on move 11.

I usually play on ICC, you can get a 7 day free trial there which is pretty cool
11-03-2010 , 01:27 AM
Sure thing, I'll be on as NKaiser in just a minute or two. Forgive my rustiness (obv level)

EDIT: I haven't ever really used ICC. Where can I find you?

ok, loading the interface. I'm VCJeff.
connection is pretty ****** and I have a mousepad so you should base your strat on flagging me

Well, Palinca dismantled me quite soundly in some fishy chess games Good casual fun. Somebody needs to tell him that 1. d4 is boring though Such a nit.
11-03-2010 , 02:30 AM
Very well, you'll be facing some 1.e4 gambits next time

Good games, your second attack was creative but suicidal (the a5, a4, Ra5, Rh5...) the kings gambit one was really interesting though. I was so happy to see Qh3+, as I couldn't move my Nb8 or Ra8, so instead of being 2 pieces up was effectively an exchange down with my king in the center. Maybe there was something good for you there.

If any forum reg is interested in friendly bets around chess, I'm always game

I know rumnchess is an excellent player, deepak is also good, anyone else out there?
11-03-2010 , 03:24 AM
me me me i don't want to bet until i play you a few times lol

d4 is a bit lame imo tho, prefer tactical e4 opposed to positional d4
11-03-2010 , 04:04 AM
my fide rating is ~2000 and I haven't played seriously in a few years, no need to play a few games, if I wanted to hustle/cheat I would play weaker than usual anyway (or have someone play for me). what's your chess history?
11-03-2010 , 04:19 AM
btw d4 is maybe a bit slower than e4, but it can still get pretty wild quite quickly.... I'm definitely less nitty in chess than in poker

I'm not strong enough to beat you, but don't pretend you weren't less comfortable when I made things super-tactical.

alex if you know what a gambit is i'm pretty sure i don't want chess in the rotation.

Can someone trustworthy volunteer to be the judge for the alex vs. alex ro-sham-bo by the way please. (the best way i can think of us doing it is both pming you our call then you saying who won).

also, i started a game of go with you on fb, i think 6.5 points(komi?) is the standard handicap for going second, which i'll take. If you aren't happy with that/want to go 2nd and take the handicap we can start another game easily.

Alex/Alex, I'll play Go with one of you on KGS! It's an astoundingly simple and effective GUI.

I'd be happy to do this at some point, though i think it'd end up being pretty much a teaching game (i have like 10 go matches lifetime) because i've been meaning to sign up to KGS.

Gonna have to prioritise the matches vs. alex though, see last month's LC thread but there has appeared a

MASSIVE RIVALRY

and so the only way we can resolve who is the best alex is to play a series of skill games like high level ro-sham-bo, connect 4 and monopoly, with some luck games like poker, go and chess thrown in to make things interesting.

Ro Sham Bo is deceptively deep. It's the type of game you can devote a few hours worth of time learning about and win bets for the rest of your life, but be crushed by somebody who learned just a little bit more (just like Go, Chess, Poker, Monopoly...)

Here we are, the elitists who need to be good at everything, googling Ro Sham Bo and monopoly strategy just because we want to have an edge.
11-03-2010 , 04:49 AM
can u play monopoly 1v1 or more online?
