Min Raising Preflop vs 3x Min Raising Preflop vs 3x

Hey y'all.

I've been mostly a cash and 6-max sng player, but have recently switched to heads up sngs. I'm playing 6.25 turbo games and I have been curious about what a lot of the successful players are doing as far as pre flop raising goes.

I've been starting to min raise pre flop with my entire range. Obviously I switch gears depending on my opponents tendencies, but I'm just curious on how some of you regs feel about min raising and if I'm losing or gaining value at this level.

For myself, the min raise seems to work well when opponents will fold to it occasionally and will rarely 3bet. I do switch up to 3x the big blind when they seem to be calling with anything so as to get more chips in the pot when I'm likely ahead pre flop.

any thoughts appreciated. cheers!

I minraise from the first level onward in turbos. Don't really play reg speeds, but I'd probably pot it at 10/20 and start minraising at 15/30. It's good that you think about villain tendencies. Keep doing that and see what works for you, just know that once you get around 30ish bb deep, 3xing gets easy to exploit if you're doing it regularly.

This is exactly what I do, I play mostly reg speeds.

A lot of players can't handle the min raise. Technically I think it isn't that strong at lower blind levels as the implied odds to call it are incredible. But if people don't realize that and keep folding to it... it's gold

even assuming you're equal in postflop skill, you still have position...

Yeah, I don't worry if they have implied odds to call it. I have position and I'm not stacking off when someone who has been folding to cbets for the past ten minutes suddenly c/c flop and c/r the turn.

I like that it's so tempting to call, honestly. Maybe they have implied odds, but they're going to make mistakes playing OOP.

And at the turbos, the implied odds can't be that great. Calling a minraise OOP 50bb deep (1.5k chips at 15/30) leaves you in the same situation as calling a 4x OOP 100bb deep.

<3 minraise.

Dont play turbos. 8 times out of 10 its probably a 3xs raise unless I have a specific read on the opponent. Obviously if it gets to the later levels I switch to mainly minraising.

I play turbos exclusively and PERSONALLY, i min raise ( on the button obv ).

A lot of players that are very agressive and 3x-4x pre , after 3-4 minutes against me usually switch to min-raise. I'm still unsure why, but I think it's because they realise i like to play small-ball. I have confidence at the stakes I play that i can outplay most people postflop so i don't mind not 3x. Don't think play is deep enough to 3x in turbo SNGs.

I like this . I've been noticing the same thing, that my opponent will often mirror my min raising style after a few minutes. Perhaps this is a sign that they're a thinking opponent. I also like the comment about play not being deep enough in turbo sngs. you just have to be 3 bet out of hands a couple times to be left in a significant hole in the match.

It tilts me when I see min raises. If I see it, I'll 3bet more often.

You must be tilted 90% of the time then.

You're doing it wrong, 3x'ing makes 3betting more profitable.

Its not about profiting, it's about sending a message.
