I could be wrong, but I believe there is some difference between how FTP and Stars is dealing with these issues.

I'm 100% comfortable using SS on Stars. Feel free to report anybody you see berating fish for poor SS stats, it ruins it for everybody.

There's no reason to believe this. The update changed the functionality of the client display, there's no evidence that should make you assume they now have super-duper spyware included. Actually I'm pretty sure they always did.

The only thing relevant between pre and post-update is the change in the usage policy.

And I thought it was well known prior to this that Sharkscope was banned. So they just clarified this? SS wasn't listed on any prohibited programs list prior to the update?

Correct. The language said something to the effect of "no programs or websites that collect information from games you did not play."

I think it was a pretty grey area, as I always assumed that rule was written for those websites where they datamine and sell/share hand-histories.
