20-25 min powernaps + coffee works every time for me if Im not too tired, if im very tired than only good sleep will help. Or I just go outside and do something to get bit refreshed.

Take advantage of the first 2-4 hours of your day, it's often when you are very focused, consider it your peak and protect it viciously. Stay off of messengers, emails (unless it's your job), don't setup appointments for the mornings, don't setup meetings, get rid of distractions if possible.

You'll be amazed at what you can then accomplish in those hours.

After that, consider a moderate meal and a good workout, then see if you can get another hour or two of good, near-peak efforts in.

Outside of that, there are things like meditation and breathing exercises that can help you, depending on what your issues are from there. But you might just accept that you can only get 3-5 really good focused hours out of yourself per day and the rest is diminished returns and that might be perfectly fine (in fact, if you do 4hrs per day 6 days a week, that's 24hrs of peak poker performance. Add another hour or two of near peak and you're at 30-35hrs a week of really good performance at a job that is highly lucrative if you're good at it).

I don't think most people can honestly say they get 8+ hrs of peak performance per day on tough decision making work like poker, I just don't really think people are being honest with themselves if they're saying that. I see plenty of people (and have experienced it myself) work 60-80 hour weeks and have strong drives at times, but it's not peak performance.

I think you dont need the bolded parts for the statement to be true. It really doesnt matter what it is you are doing, you wont be doing it for long at 100%. Essentially most people play their B-game most of the time.

Like in my company, we barely manage to get the usual stuff done in time. So, when something special happens and we got extra work because of it, you would think there must stuff we cant do anymore in time. But somehow we always manage. As if magically in those extra-weeks, people work faster/harder.

Small anecdote when I was working as a student, I was clearing cargo-trucks. One day, our team-manager was super-motivated: "Guys, I want this truck to be cleared as fast as ****ing possible! I want a record-time!...". So, we did it in about 1/3 the time we usually need. The targeted time is 1.5 hours per truck and we did it in half-an-hour. We were pretty happy, celebrating even. Then another Team-Manager walked by: "Are you guys ****ing stupid?? You do realise that if the boss finds out you clear trucks in half and hour, he's going to want you to do it regularly?"

So we ended up, makeing it look like we still got work to do. While lurking around for an hour to make sure our boss wouldnt find out, how fast we actually can be.
