How do you review sessions? How do you review sessions?

Hi guys,

so far I have never reviewed my grind sessions, maily because I have little time to play (I have a real job) and for studying I have been focusing entirely on watching vids and reading books and this forum.

For now I play mainly 15sHT and I plan to move soon to 30s. With competition getting tougher, I feel like I need to pay more attention to my own game.

So, when do you review your sessions, do you simply scroll over recently played hands and think about how you would have done things differently?

Do you mark tough hands during play?

Also I find that it is hard to spot my own leaks (of which there must be a ton).

For the record I have PT4 and HEM2, which I mainly use for HUD

Any suggestion about work ethics, software, other threads dealing with studying is very welcome!

Thanks in advance.

Easy analysis would be finding the big pots won/lost in a session filtering for all in preflop, then using ICMIZER or evDiff to see if shoving/calling was +ev AND whether another play would be more +ev.

Tougher analysis comes from marking hands and reviewing later, I do this rarely atm but should do it more. These are the hands that should be posted on forums after you've had a think about it again yourself with a fresh mind (not in the rush of the game).

I don't have a schedule for review, tend to just do it as and when after a session. But if you set aside 30 mins at the end of each day (I know you're busy but it's not that much) it will be very helpful and you'll concentrate 100% on reviewing.

Spotting leaks is hard, I guess talking to poker buddies/skype group is helpful here. Best way leaks come out for me is when I post on here and get corrected, or when my lines get picked apart by better players and I'm forced then to ask qns about my thinking/come up with alternative ways to play that I did not think of before - that's how leaks emerge imo. It's not realistic I don't think to say 'I will find some leaks today'.

We all have leaks, they tend to only become clear over a large sample size and then with an 'AHA' moment when someone better than you points it out.

Gl!

recording video of myself grinding then review later is my favourite way. There are many things you can't see in a handhistory. Your speed of play, how many tabs you were playing, what time you were playing, you can easily spot what could be trigging your autopilot/tilt issues etc. Also when you're 2+ tabling you get a lot of hands per video.

I wouldn't consider reviewing ALL my sessions tho, thats mental and probably a waste of time, probably like 30min-1hr of play a day is enough.

When reviewing ur own hand histories... breakdown the hand into different parts,,,,,

1) analyze the hand in terms of SPR - Stack to pot ratio
2) analyze the hand in terms of various lines you couldve taken on various streets
3) calculate the various EV of different lines you couldve taken, and which line is most +EV
4) assign hand ranges to villain, basically what range is he likely to Check-raise, Check-call or Donk-bet u with.
5) ask opinions from friends, and get various insights on one idea...then ur able to put the puzzle together for a final product...

I personally just mark the hands I'm not sure about in game and review them post session.
I am pretty confident in most of my overall game so there's not a lot of spots that I do review. But everyone has those spots where they're like "aagh, what, no, really, levelaments, sure, call, ****, me, roughly". So I go over those and think about them. Think about balance a lot and try to get to a result about each and every spot. I have a coach that I talk to sometimes, he helps me with these spots.

I don't watch any videos or read books though, so that probably separates me from the norm. This is a bit off topic maybe, but I think that people under value balancing. Although it might be semi pointless if you play mainly fish, it is very important to know how to do properly. Having a good balanced range in the most common spots at least is going to help a lot with your reg grinding.

http://www.screencast-o-matic.com/

I'm not sure if I am allowed to share these type of links. If not I can delete it later.

This is a software that can help in recording your sessions. It has a 15 minute time limit though for free users.

If anyone knows a free software that records without time limit that would be great. I tried "Auto Screen Recorder" and "Screen Capture" and they are also time limited (at least free version).

I looked around and I found a software called "msi afterburner". I haven't downloaded it yet, so I don't know how legit it is. I will let you know in a while.

Also I don't know if it is mac compatible.

edit: you would need winrar software as it is in a zip file.
