I'd have preferred you come to me with this comment earlier and by PM, but w/e. I have done my best to create trees where every player has a "coach" that is most adapted to his situation; someone who is playing the same format/sites, at a slightly superior level of skill. In a few spots, the pairings are of a slighty different nature - because the two players are closely matched in terms of skill, or maybe becaus the formats are not exactly the same (not many regs specialize in deep stacks for instance). Does that mean that the experience suddenly becomes a meaningless waste of time? No, the "coaching" session just takes up a different form.
It's obvious that some people are going to be somewhat disappointed in their pairings or the results of their coaching, everyone wants to get "mers or RNC", but I thought the "risk" was pretty clear in the concept, as well the fact that the success of an experience like this depends entirely on a good attitude by participants, accepting the pairings and doing their best to help each other out.
I think it's pretty disrespectful to just go completely missing because you don't like the tree setup. I mean, what am I supposed to tell your 2 students?
They've both given a lot of their to the guys assigned to them, and how can they not feel let down if you won't even answer their PMs?
You are certainly not the only one in your case, and I'm only posting this here because you brought the situation here instead of by PM, but seriously guys how can you not see that suddenly going missing screws up all my work on this? I've had PM conversations go :
anon : oh yeah, that thing, nah I had stuff come up, not doing it anymore
me : I understand that, but it poses a bit of a problem, since your students have put in 6 hours+ with the players that were assigned to them, I can take care of player X, but it would really help me out if you found 1 hour in your schedule to help out Y, he's been really looking forward to coaching by you
anon : nah, sorry bro can't do it
How am I not supposed to get tilted by this kind of ****? I've put in countless hours on this thing trying to keep everyone happy and some players don't even have the courtesy of PMing me or their students about not wanting to be a part of this.
I don't want to sound too bitter, I've had many cool feeback PMs about successful experiences with the trees, but some of the participants have put in more than 10 hours with their students, only to find that their coach is too busy to do 1 HH review, and too busy to answer PMs despite posting on 2+2 on a daily basis, and that just annoys me.
