Is this a call or fold? Is this a call or fold?

22$ Spin & Go
Hero: A8 (spades)
Blinds: 10/20

I raise to 62 chips from the small blind, big blind calls.

Flop: 3s 7s Kd

Oppent shoves a stack which is about 380 chips and is an overbet shove.
I have about 800 chips behind. Do you call and take the chances or do you fold since it is such an overbet?

Please comment.

profitable call for sure, to work it out you just figure out your pot odds and then your equity vs his shoving range, if its super close equity wise and your against a bad player and think you have a good edge then you can fold

Thanks for the answer. I had no info on the opponent and don't use extra programs besides HUD (you have very little time during the game anyways). How do you think it is best to make such a decision if you feel like you could outplay the opponent without taking such risks?

you can only learn how close the situations are by studying them, then once you have studied it over and over you will automatically know whats close and whats not

What you should do is filter your database for spots like this, take a look at hands people are doing this, after this you will get some idea about their range, than calculate pot odds, in this case its 43%, get some equity software like equilab, plug in ranges and you will get your equity, if its greater than 43% than you should call. + equilab can calculate range based on equity so you will not only figure out if A8ss is a call but you will see your whole calling range in this spot.

You wont be getting more than 43% equity on this spot. You also have ALOT of better hands to make the call there. Just fold and play the next hand.

There is no way you have <43% unless villain is a nit, and most nits don't overbet donkjam much at all. We have 43% against KQ. If villain is basically ever spewing with ss combos, draw combos, weaker pairs, or pure bluffs, this just becomes a mandatory call. If villain has top pair only it's damn close.

With that said, against a villain like this it might be worth finding some marginal folds because we might have sick edge later. I wouldn't fold this one without some reads, though.

yeah, I wouldn't fold too, I have seen plenty of spew donk jams from people to snapcall this.

I don't think this is a play ever from a nit. It's usually from a maniac type that attacks every pot. I've seen a pretty wide range though on these kinds of shoves though which means against a random, it's probably a call with our equity being no worse than 35% even against 2 pair combos. A set being highly unlikely given even bad players are jamming PP's PF.

Generally, What is a red flag with these donk shoves is if villain has been donking often but with smaller sizing and then randomly doing this. Then, it starts looking like a monster trying to bait a hero call.

The opponent did not seem to be a maniac and I thought he was quite weak that's why it was such an interesting situation.

Later on he wasn't making moves like that anymore.
