Hi Orsulab,

We switched into a video pack format to better serve the growing diversified needs of users (hypers picking up popularity, but turbos still running strong, plus higher populations in low, mid and high stakes), as well as our instructors (more profitable games means instructors need more incentive to take time away from the table to make quality content).

The premium subscription is now a premium pack, so there aren't any new videos in there. We release new packs, but there is no set schedule. We've had months of 2-3 packs released, as well as months with no packs.

Let me know if you have any questions about it.

And here I was thinking you switched to a video pack format to be able to increase your price per video 1000%

There is an increased price per video, as well as increased quality per video. We probably released maybe 2 videos per month previously that were in the neighborhood of quality level that are video packs currently get.

We also took many videos that we used to release in our subscriptions (leakfinders, live play) and we now release those free. If we still had the subscription format, many of those free videos would be in the standard subscription, with some making the premium section.

So what we've done in one major way, is take some of the less advanced material, and made it free, and taken some more of the advanced material, built more of it and put it together in a more focused way, and we sell that separately now.

As far as where the money goes, our authors are making more money than ever before for their pack videos. This was a natural response to the increasing need for us to put out some better content, combined with the increased cost for that content.

In hindsight we should have switched formats years ago. It was probably a failure of vision on my part on why we did not. When we launched, we sort of just looked at what other training sites did, and that's what we did.

And while quality of content has never been an issue, there were many issues with the subscription format. How do you charge someone who wants to subscribe once a year, download the videos in one month, then resubscribe? You could put a huge signup fee, but that's so discouraging for players, especially those just starting out, and it kind of traps users that no longer like your content.

What about the dozens of emails we got about players wanting just turbo speed videos? Or just hyper videos, or videos by a specific instructor. Players also wanted more concept videos, the nature of which take far longer to make than live videos or leakfinders. And videos focused on improving lower stakes play, or getting into the mid stakes. That sort of thing is very tough to do in the subscription format, while balancing the needs of every other type of customer.

Combine all that with around two dozen instructors that we'd talk with each month that rotated making videos, each of their time schedules, their upswings, downswings, figuring out their actual value for each video made with unreliable metrics... it was a huge project and it ended up being extremely inefficient.

Now we get to let users buy exactly what they want. We get to incentivize authors by letting them revenue share, at above market rates, and really enjoy the upside, without exposing the site (and community) to the downsides (overpaying a player that makes videos that don't sell). We also don't have to rush authors to get videos done on certain dates to make a monthly quota, so that paying subscribers aren't upset that there are less videos one month (and then having to make sure there are not too many for another month).

The changes have really opened up time and energy that has been spent doing things like improving the high stakes report and getting into other communities where we tell players how great HUSNGs are as a fun, exciting and growing game to get into.

But as long as I'm still managing the site, you'll have plenty of free videos, tools, the ebook and HUDs to work with if you don't have the budget or you can't justify the price of the pay-products.

Co-owner Ryan "xSCWx" Dodge really got into that after black friday and has done well with it.

Unlike say craps or a slot, blackjack is beatable (and has been since forever). The key there (aside from knowing where the edges are/how to modify bets) is to practice winning strategy in a way that the casino doesn't realize that you're actually a winning player.

Ryan mentioned how he used to get barred from casinos (it's legal to count cards, but also legal for casinos to ban anyone), but he's really worked out a pretty good strategy over time. Several high stakes HUSNG regs have gotten into it on casino trips with him (Pistons is one that posted publicly in his pack thread).

Let me know if you have any questions on it, Ryan can answer directly for the most part too.

Hey, I purchased your Premium 3 month package about a month and a half ago and it is by far.

The best effing money I've ever spent on anything poker related!!!!!! I've already filled one notebook up, and I've noticed incredible improvements in my games. I'm crushing regs at my stakes who I was breakeven against before, and I've moved up and I'm doing the same thing there.

THANKS A TON!!!!

How up to date do you think is the premium package wrt turbos? I am toying with the idea to get it (for the first time) but I know that the content is a bit old by now in general and the turbo content in specific prolly even older.

Thx!

I think the u cna spel, h2olga, newest HokieGreg videos and some of the later ITRIED/MJW ones are really relevant in the games today. A lot of what they taught wasn't "games play this way, so I do this" it was more of "here is the information present, vs someone with a range of x, y and z hands here, we should raise because they should fold x and y, making it very profitable" and that isn't really easy to go out of style as long as the decision making process is pretty accurate (and those guys were in many ways). There are other good videos too, but a rule of thumb would be to make sure you're at 2011-2012 in any vids you really watch, and go from there (and probably start with the guys I mention above first).

Some of our earlier turbo videos, by myself included, are not going to be as relevant (mainly because our video and teaching skillset was not as high, so it was more directly beneficial at the time to players in those games, and not so much today).

Do you guys offer staking for Bovada?

I'm a few days short of building a computer that was made strictly for analyzing population tendencies, and Bovada is the perfect site to do this since once all the HH's are downloaded, we have access to all the hole cards (not just the hands that are shown down) and all the tables are anonymous, so I think it was would be an interesting experience for the coach as well as myself.

We don't do staking on Bovada currently.

One thing that I think makes Bovada worse than other sites for population tendencies, is that you don't know if you're facing the same guy 50x or 2x. If we build population tendencies on PokerStars, and we have 5k games, and we rematched one guy 400 times, another guy 300 times, another 250 times and a few more around 200 times, we know where some bias might lean. On Bovada, we have no idea.

That said, with some huge # of games, that might not matter at all, but it would require something far larger than one single player (even a full time grinder) gathering their own hands.

Just some thoughts there.

Thanks for the quote ready 2 win.

Welsh, it's the same answer currently, we won't have anything available very soon, but we are working on getting another turbo pack out there, probably something less focused on being a guide, a little higher stakes (more game play, hand review, focused on 30-75bb stacks..). It'll definitely be 2014 though.

Just to let everyone know, we're having some server issues (inefficiencies) that are drastically reducing site performance over the last 72 hours. The site may be slow and/or down at times for up to the next 24 hours while we finish fixing the underlying issues.

Apologies for the issues and inconvenience.

Here is a new video from veteran video author faarcyde, the third video from his series on player profiling for http://www.husng.com. As in the prior two videos, faarcyde is reviewing a game played at $100 turbos on PokerStars. Unlike in the other two, however, in this one faarcyde plays a regular rather than a recreational opponent. As faarcyde profiles his opponent, he also explains his thoughts behind the various tough choices he must make.

Mattraq1 of http://www.husng.com follows up his debut video series on creative play and non-standard lines with a new format for instructional videos. Taking feedback from his viewers, Matt has developed this format with the aim of bringing his viewers some of "the feel of a coaching session." He plays through a game with normal commentary, then upon reaching the hand that is the focal point of the video, he plays without commentary, and stops the playback at the crucial point in the hand, leaving his viewers with several talking points.
Matt's goal is to stimulate his viewers into thinking about and discussing the hand before his long and deep analysis of the hand, which he has already recorded, is revealed. Take a moment to study the hand in question, and let Matt and other viewers know what you think by either replying here or in the official husng.com thread!

Faarcyde's opponent is successful against fish, but has a static and transparent game that Faarcyde aims to exploit. In this video, Faarcyde reviews the first of their two games against each other, introduces his opponent's tendencies, and explains some of the tactics he will be using to exploit these tendencies.
