Nasty spot... the 1/4 pot bet followed by the big raise spells trouble imo. It's hard to put him on a just flushdraw with the Ah on the board. Straight draws also appear unlikely and sets don't usually raise this big.
My guess is you're looking at any of the two pair combo's out there, TPTK, TPGK and pair+flush draw hands.
I would fold here against an unknown opponent.

I might just fold pre-flop vs the 4x.

I find a lot of the time people will bet small with draws and when you c/r they realise they can no longer play it cheap/slow so they just bomb it.

It's a bit frightening with him 4x pre, betting small then re-raising the flop here though. I could go back to the old adage that TP is the virtual nuts in these games because people will massively overplay much worse hands here but i might be out of touch. So one part of me thinks snap jam and watch him call off worse all day, whilst the other thinks he looks super strong.

Reads on how he had played previously or anything at all would help. Like if he 3x or 4x his buttons before or you'd seen any showdowns?

I wouldn't say snap call in this situation unless he has been 4 raising flops for a while. If this is only the 3rd hand of the game and you haven't played before, give him grace. For all you know at this point they only 4 raise AK AQ suited and have you dominated. Use this hand to gather info unless he's just - a few thousand on Sharkscope or whatever you use.
