This is an old hand, and I have notes now, but I think this was the first hand of the first time we played - so I'll just say his SS graph is abysmal.

Anyway, I think this hand is indicative of a leak I've been noticing lately. I inflate a pot OOP, for value, against a passive opponent. And then the river puts me in a spot where my hand reverses in value.

I think the Ao was more confusing to me because I was more focused on planning for a diamond.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, 34.5 Tournament, 10/20 Blinds (2 handed)

SB (t1500)
Hero (BB) (t1500)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J, K
SB bets t40, Hero calls t20

Flop: (t80) 5, 9, J (2 players)
Hero checks, SB bets t40, Hero raises to t140, SB calls t100

Turn: (t360) 3 (2 players)
Hero bets t300, SB calls t300

River: (t960) A (2 players)...

Bet 350 or so for value. He could easily call with a worse J or a 9. He might have spiked the ace of diamonds of course, but you're still ahead of his range. Fold if he raises since he's passive.

grunch...

pretty easy check call otr as played.... no clue why regs check raise so often, i dont understand it, never have and never will... i lead flop & turn and check call river usually.. but yea as played i check call river if we were betting flop/turn for value and we think hes a idiot calling with a single diamond

I like a check on the river because it wides your opponents range that he will put money in with. inducing bluffs with missed diamonds, bet weaker J's, most will probably check 9's, and of course you will likely save yourself money when he has the Ad.
