Poker Stars $30.00+$1.50 No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t10/t20 Blinds - 2 players
The Official 2+2 Hand Converter Powered By DeucesCracked.com

BB: t1240 62 BBs
Hero (BTN/SB): t1760 88 BBs

Pre Flop: (t30) Hero is BTN/SB with Q 5
Hero raises to t40, BB calls t20

Flop: (t80) 9 4 Q (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets t60, BB raises to t120, Hero calls t60

Turn: (t320) Q (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets t260, BB raises to t1080 all in, Hero calls t820

I don't like how I played this hand at all. I think my betsizing on the turn was way too big. I would have preferred if I bet 200. This was about 10 hands in and my only read was that he floated me light w/ K high on a very dry board. His stats looked like he was a recreational player messing around, only up a few dollars.

I called because I turned trips. I really wasn't loving my flush draw either.

You can fold this flop. You can fold this turn. You can't find the fold button?

Yea, it's right next to the call button?

Anyways like I said I know my play is bad. I'm interested in seeing if anyone ever thinks I'm ahead here, and why.

OK, I can justify your play, if that's what you came here for.

Yeah man, you got trips, it doesn't get much better than that. It beats the hell out of top pair with a five kicker on a three flush board, which is the hand you improved from on the flop. I mean, I'm sure he's screw-balled you as a complete bluff. Def call the 2nd checkraise.

That's what I was thinking.

So I guess my question should be does a recreational player ever spazz out here w/ a pair + flush draw? If he does my call is ok.

I don't really like giving an unknown that range though for obvious reasons. I dunno played it pretty bad I guess.

OP: Never fold flop to a min/checkraise with your hand in this situation against this villain (and your reads of him). Your turn bet-sizing is fine. As for calling his turn check/shove, looks close to me. Though I instinctively lean towards fold, I'm not sure that's necessarily a slam-dunk here. I'd recommend using something like PokerStove to construct a range against which calling is breakeven, and then using that as a baseline to better guess which side of it villain's play falls on.

Oh, and Dies Irae is being sarcastic and trollish in post #4.

That's not the question you should be asking. Instead of "does he ever do this" why not ask "what is he usually doing this with" -- not a hand you're crushing, that's for sure.

I wrote "does he ever do this" because I was wondering what hands to add to his range that would make this call ok. I don't talk strat a lot, so it probably didn't sound right.

Inexperienced player is taking this line with a better hand way more than with Ac/Kc semibluff, which is all you're ahead of that's not air (and I don't think many people bluff air on this board).

You're gonna be completely owned when you stove it out, especially if you weight semibluffs down a bit because they're less likely with the line.

EDIT: actually it's not that bad, since we're drawing to the 9 and the 4 for a chop and the 5c let's us beat some other Qs on riv.
