Paul Gibbons here – this is my 10th WSOP, and the 8th one I’ve sold action for.
I use a strategy of high-value/ medium-buy in events. The ABI is around 700. Last year I had seven cashes, the year before six - including 13th in the Monster stack for $65k and a min-cash in the main. I was second in chips in PLO bounty on day 2 last year and got coolered to bust like 50th.
In 2016 and 2017, investors made 100% returns. In 2018, they made a small loss for the first time in years.
I've made a living from poker since 2011 - mostly PLO these days, and mostly online. I was a stars mid-stakes reg - <= $109 BI until Black Friday.
(If you know me, and you are one of those investors, stick a "this guy is legit note in the thread".)
Who?
I’m a senior (fifty ****ing nine this year ffs) that began poker online in 2009 studying with several coaches and Cardrunners. I then ran through DC, and then RunItOnce. I had a 40% ROI in mid-stakes, about 16% ITM (paulgibbo on Pokerstars) in mid-stakes online (over about 10,000 tournaments) from about 2010 onward including a dozen or so 5 figure cashes. Here is P5s…

On the live tournament circuit, I was pro for two years, and bagged 350k in live cashes including 2 six-figure scores (chopping the Chicago Classic $3200 for $165k was the biggest.) My total live cashes are about 500k. Here is my Hendon Mob…

I pretty much only play the series now - but I play all 6 weeks.
Before Poker I was a pro backgammon and bridge player. As an established player, who is somewhat famous as a writer, business guru type guy, I’m a trustworthy sort – not likely to spew off buy-ins in the pit or at Rhino (as one of my horses did one year.) I sleep every hour I’m not playing, eat right, and work out.
I get a house with a bunch of regs (<35 years old usu) and go over spots nightly.
In preparation for the series, I'm
- going through the upswing material on tournaments
- going through Jnandez stuff on PLO
- going a few weeks early (mid May) to warm up with some Venetian $400s
My attitude to the game
The good thing about being a senior is I get to play against seniors AND when I play against younger regs, they don’t get what they expect. My style is what you would expect from an online reg.
Temperament and mindset are everything - the skill edge only manifests itself rarely (a tough post-flop spot against a player good enough to put you in one), but mindset is there on every hand - disciplined ranges, having a plan for every street, not "botting it" - not punting.
I mostly take Wednesdays and Thursdays off as rest days.
Pricing and markup
Basically this package is the weekend events at WSOP, the sub 1K WSOP events, and seniors, IT HAS MULTIPLE flights and a FEW second bullets - so there is a pretty big refund built in
The markup is 1.3 as in prior years.
NEW PRICING SCHEDULE
There are $33, 561 in net buy ins.(Including markup)
Because that volume is unplayable, I'm going to collect only 85% of that from investors. (Unplayable because we make day 2, or take a day off, or don't need 2nd bullet or whatever.)
That saves your cash flow. In theory your exposure is for 28 events - however, there are multiple bullets for the fishy WSOPs and I don't play every day to rest for big ones.
AS a benefit, I will offer investors in this schedule a 5% discount on the main and a main markup of 25% - however, playing the main depends on how the summer has gone - it is 75% right now.
SO
That makes $28,526
2% (the minimum) is 570
5% is 1426
10% is 2852
For 20% and up, take 5% off so 20% is 5420 (.2*28,526*.95)
I play other events while at the WSOP - I play the daily when free. Anything $250 buyin or less is off the schedule (my own dime) unless I say the contrary (I will post saying "I'm skipping the $400 Venetian and playing daily instead" or something like that.)
Schedule changes and updates
I have a Facebook account I use just for poker staking, it is called Paul Gibbons Poker. I post hands and results on every break. When I’m very deep, more often. I prefer not to post in multiple places (Twitter, 2p2) because it is a distraction. So follow Paul Gibbons poker on facebook for the most consistent updates.
Pricing and payments
Taxes - either I deduct 25% or we do the tax forms.
Paypal and CQP are best. I don't mind cash during first week of series, I arrive June 1st.
Unless I agree it with you, payment is due one week before June 1st - I will have to bump you.
This package always oversells (I will start a wait list.)
Here is the schedule… (only the yellow ones are in the price, the other ones are possible options...)
When the other seniors events post, I will play those - I basically try to play every single seniors event.
I do swap events - I will not swap a high val event (a $400 venetian) into a low val event (a $2500 six-max) ever. I don't play any mixed games and the only O8 is a PLO/ Big-O (in which i have massive edge.)
