Hi, I’m Nath Pizzolatto, sometimes known as Cap’nJackpot in the poker world. Longtime 2p2 poster you may remember from Ye Olde Days.
(pictured: old me / new me)
I’d been away from poker for a long time, but last year I started playing tournaments in earnest again. I won a tournament at a live series here in Colorado, then decided to start playing online again. After a few early bumps, I got my feet under me and have been pretty consistently successful, albeit not at very high buy-ins yet.
But I had a long history before Black Friday of playing tournaments at a high level. I have the talent and experience to do this, and I’ve been spending the last year studying the new advances in the game, from GTO ranges to solvers to ICM and everything in between, to update my skill set to play optimally with modern knowledge of the game. I feel like I’ve refined my game quite a bit from the old days, particularly in my patience with a short stack, and that my success will continue as my bankroll grows and I can move up. I have a much more mature mental approach to the game than in my younger days, having learned to be patient as well as take better care of myself physically and mentally. (If you’d like to read more, I made
this post on my Patreon from back in November free, detailing how my mental approach has changed (well, the second half of the post does that). I think I’ve only gotten better since then, as I’ve been studying more and more-- different spots, how to approach situations and boards pre and post; the specific reasoning behind why we take certain lines.)
I think I’m good enough to be very positive in my expectations for the World Series of Poker main event, and while I wanted to play some of the other events around Vegas this summer, I didn’t think I’d realistically be able to sell action to all of those and keep enough for myself to be worth the time or risk. But the WSOP Main Event is the best tournament of the year, with the best tournament field of the year, and I felt like I could mark it up enough to make it worth the trip. I’ll likely play Day 1D just to cut down on my travel expenses by not having to spend money on accommodations during the days between 1 and 2.
Here’s my Sharkscope since I’ve returned to playing online at ACR. I’ve made multiple final tables in the current MOSS that started a week ago; I’m going to continue playing those until it's time to travel.
My Hendon Mob page
Right now I am selling for:
1-5% - 1.35 markup
6-10% - 1.3 markup
11%+ - 1.25 markup
I’m basically trying to sell as much as I realistically can, and I’ll put a cap on it when I have enough-- that will probably be in the 70-80% range. Any cash here would make the trip worthwhile, so I’m going to play my best even if I only have a small amount of my own action.
I can take Venmo or Zelle for the staking, or you can give me cash in Las Vegas if you’re going to be there. How we handle payouts and the paperwork involved will depend on whether we cash and the size of the cash. I know we only have a little over a week to put this together, so I may not raise enough money for it to happen. If I can't sell enough to make the trip, all money sent already will be refunded.
I’ll post updates on my Twitter account @RCJackpot. Feel free to contact me by PM with any questions.
I’ll update as people take action.
