ABI 750 or so, avg MU 19% (30% seniors, 15% large field 1k events)
Paul Gibbons here – this is my 8th WSOP, and the 6th one I’ve sold action for. I’ve made a profit for investors every year since 2013, because I use a strategy of high-value/ medium-buy in events. There are 24 events below with an ABI of about $750. I have no reservations about playing in the fishiest events every summer – in fact I seek those out.
Who?
I’m a senior (!!) that began poker online in 2009 studying with several coaches and Cardrunners. I then ran through DC, and then RunItOnce. I had a 40% ROI in mid-stakes, about 16% ITM (paulgibbo on Pokerstars) in mid-stakes online (over about 10,000 tournaments) from about 2010 onward including a dozen or so 5 figure cashes. Here is P5s…

On the live circuit, I was pro for two years, and bagged 350k in live cashes including 2 six-figure scores (chopping the Chicago Classic $3200 for $165k was the biggest.) My total live cashes are about 400k. Here is my Hendon Mob…

Before Poker I was a pro backgammon and bridge player. As an established player, who is somewhat famous as a writer, business guru type guy, I’m a trustworthy sort – not likely to spew off buy-ins in the pit or at Rhino (as one of my horses did one year.) I sleep every hour I’m not playing, eat right, and work out with my crew. We save the partying for six-fig cashes. (And if I get a six-figure cash, I will expect you there.)
My attitude to the game
The good thing about being a senior is I get to play against seniors AND when I play against younger regs, they don’t get what they expect. My style is what you would expect from an online reg – frankly, I’m no longer as good as the top online players, but those aren’t the people I go to Vegas to beat.
I’m part-time now, but talk to people every week, study videos, talk about PIO, and discuss big hands. I rent a big house with 7 other poker pros (average age 30) and we talk hands constantly. Some are high-stakes cash regs, some HSMTT regs. I travel to Vegas for cash games about every 8 weeks. I will spend most of May grinding tournaments online and going over HHs.
Pricing and markup
• I have a tiny number of WSOP 1k events in the schedule, the PH $2K main, and a Venetian $1650 – the markup for those is 15%.
• For standard mid-stakes ($400 to $600), the markup is 20%.
• For seniors, and fishfests (like the RIO daily, the ARIA daily, and the new GIANT), the markup is 30%.
That is an average markup of 19% - which given the quality of the field in seniors and the weaker tournaments (IMO) - is excellent value.
The schedule
The attached schedule is far too full, with 24 events in 28 days. It is likely I will play less, and there will be a bunch of day 2s. Furthermore, there are days when there are options, a $400 at 3pm or a $600 at noon… Sometimes I may sub the WSOP daily for a $400 somewhere. So, while the package is $22k and change (the same as every year), there will likely be at least 25% refunds (with markup of course).
Schedule changes and updates
I have a Facebook account I use just for poker staking, it is called Paul Gibbons Poker. I post hands and results on every break. When I’m very deep, more often. I prefer not to post in multiple places (Twitter, 2p2) because it is a distraction.
Pricing
That makes $227 for 1%, $454 for 2%, $2273 for 10%... for 15%+ stakes, discount by 5%. I sell 55-65% every year, it sometimes goes very quickly.
Money and taxes
I can do CQP, BTC, PayPal. If I know you, I also don’t mind cash in Vegas – I arrive about the 12th.
I carry around some of those annoying tax forms – we can fill it out on the spot, and you can have your dough quickly – perhaps when I’m there, or when I return. OR, it is sometimes easier if I just withhold 25% and you don’t have to worry about taxes – your call.
