Daniel Negreanu, Philipp Gruissem, and Mike "Timex" McDonald also fired two bullets, but all three of them busted both and did not return for a third time

so dont get too excited shareholders, this is his 3rd bullet

i would assume he sold off a big piece to his third bullet. most likely went to the germans, and asked "you want this piece" and they say "but of course young lad"

Maybe but I don't see why not having brought enough cash would be an issue though.

i'm assuming he could just ask the tourney staff to deduct the entry fee from his payout for the 100K if they hadn't actually paid him yet at that point.

Congrats again, Mike!

Just wanted to get a general sense of how quickly you think refunds will be sorted out. I know it's a large payout.

Thanks.

Anyone know what the tax situation is for an American investor in a Canadian player in an Australian event?

well, you def have to report it as gambling income on federal and state tax returns (if state income taxes apply and they no longer apply to me since I moved to the great state of Florida). That income can be offset by gambling losses.

have no clue about Canada or Australia. I just assumed neither of those would apply but would be interested to hear otherwise if that's the case.

Here's the gambling tax implications for Americans backing non-tax-treaty countries like Canada and Australia. The tax expert's advice is "don't back players from those countries", unless you don't mind getting into some tricky stuff. You would fall into scenario #3:
