Day 5 ME,

We had a crazy level and have gone from 2M to 3.8M. Made a few aggressive plays. The table has seen me 3 bet from the SB with T7o, Hero's image is pretty loose and almost maniacal.

The villain started the day with 300K and has run it up to just under 3M, but he has run pretty hot. The first hand of the day he picked up KK against hero's AQ and he held.

Villain has 2.8M
avg. stack is around 2.2M at this point

Blinds are 20K/40K, w/ ante
we are 7 handed at the table.

Hero AK in UTG+1 and opens 90K
Folds to Button and he 3 bets to 200K, folds back to hero and we raise to 600K, Villain Shoves, hero?

Would flat the 3b to begin with. Would fold now, and prob know ahead of time what my 4b/f and 4b/call range is

agree with flat 3b, you take hands like AQ,AJ,KQ out of range w 4b

clearly we cant 4bet 600k and fold this hand right

either call the 3bet or 4bet call

You are deep. Play a pot IP with a hand that does fine vs most of his range and is dominating some >0% of it.

Or just (hopefully) flip for 70bbs on day 5 of the ME?

Also how do we feel about that 4b sizing? Seems big, no?

This is an interesting spot. While a 3-bet vs. an EP open should be considered strong, the fact you have a loose image may induce a lighter than normal 3-betting range. Even though you'll be OOP, the fact your opponent's range might be wide should gives more room to continue on most flops. If I'm flatting AK here I'm probably flatting my whole playable range.

If you're 4-betting AK here, you should be 4-betting with the intention of getting it in because you believe there's a chance villain might 5-bet you light which would give you the right price to stack off. In most tournaments that's a plausible scenario based on your image, but in the World Series main event, I don't think so. For that reason as played I'm folding.

Yes, once you 4bet it’s a call /thread

I’d much rather have AK in ny raise call range though, and be 4 bet calling QQ+ and 4 bet folding some A9 and other suited junk.

People saying call the 3bet are being completely results oriented.

Calling off a 5b 70bb deep from first to act, and naturally shoving our 4b are quite different.

That said, I didnt realize we were 7-handed when I first posted, so I think ev wise 4b w the intention to call off, maybe pretty neutral to flatting the 3b...but if that was the intention(read oriented) this shouldnt be a thread.

For those who are saying just flat the 3 bet, does the fact that his 3 bet is very small make you more or less likely to 4 bet? Initial raise of 90, 3 bet to 200.

In regards to the large 4 bet, I 4 bet large because I don't want to give a weak hand that he might be 3 betting the odds to call and hit something (eg. 89s, JTs, 99). If I 4 bet to 470, he only has to call 270 more into a pot that will a million

A little larger on the 4 bet side do deny equity but once you commit to a 4Bet w AK folding is out of the question IMO despite how good Villian had been running.

The villain in question was Benjamin Pollak (he finished 3rd).

Results: Hero folded.
villain later said he had QQ, but I don't know if I believe him.

We should "never" 4bet our valuehands and fold to a 5bet. We are not 4beting for info. We 4bet valuehands to gii. With ur image its a call. Now it depends on ur opponents. If u feel comfortable and have more edge, u can start play exploitative in these kind of spots where u dont want to flip for 60-70BB, specially live. U can start to play smallball maybe. Its hard with ur maniac image u want to gii with AK anytime but when u see resistance u will be in best case flipping. It also depends on ur opponets image in this spot. Is he capable of 5bet shoving wide or is he only 3betting his premiums where u should only flat. Dont be entitlement tilt because u got AK and have the feeling lets gii.
